    Wolfish?

Yep...currently unable to keep wolfish...but they are wonderful eating....nice white flaky meat. But you gotta stay away from those teeth. Used to catch them up in the Gulf of Maine all the time when bottom bumping for cod.
  2. Hoping this weather system rolling through doesn't spoil the camping and fishing!
  3. The biggest of 3 does that came in under my stand yesterday evening. Looked right up at me several times before I got a chance to position for the shot at about 10 yards.
  4. Check out the shrimping forum from another coastal city in our neighboring southern state. SC has a shrimp baiting season...for $25 (resident fee) you can bait for shrimp and keep 48 quarts, heads on, daily. Lots of know-how on that site.
  5. Here ya go. Spun deer hair for bass. Someone posted a bunch of other flies like these in another thread too. Muslim Fly!
  6. Hey Guys (and Gals), I just relocated to Corapeake, NC (just south of Suffolk, VA) from Maine, where I was a sometime participant on the ME/NH/MA forums. Looking forward to fishing the area...fresh, salt, brackish...it doesn't matter. I'll surf fish, bass fish, bottom bounce offshore, or wade for fish on the fly....this heat will take some getting used to though. Originally from SC, but been in the Northeast for most of my 23+ year Navy career. Will be working at NNSY. Hoping you folks can point me towards the trout and redfish. And if anyone ever needs to fill a slot, give me a shout.... Dan
  7. ME and NH have reciprocity for fishing licenses....as long as you are in a boat on the border waters. As soon as you get out of the boat and start to fish from shore or wading, you need the license for the state you are in.
  8. Great read! VERY well written and enjoyed! Thanks for sharing.
  9. Grew up there. The inlet on the north end of IOP is Dewees inlet. Flounder, redfish, small bluefish, speckled trout, tarpon, whiting, sheepshead, spanish mackerel and sharks are all available. Access to the north end of the island is gated by the golf club resort (Dunes Club). The inlet on the southern end is Breach inlet. Same species, easy access...but very dangerous due to the current and holes. Not the place to wade as all the signs in the area indicate. A kayak would serve you well on the intercoastal waterway side of the island to get up into the flats on the northern end of the island. If you can swing it, try and hook up with someone making a run up the intercoastal to Bulls Island and try your luck in the flats, in the surf, or in the inlet between it and Capers Island to the south. For bait, try live shrimp, menhaden, or mud minnows...all of which can be caught in the small creeks with a cast net. Most bait and tackle stores carry the shrimp and mud minnows. For bonnethead sharks, try 1/4 of a blue crab on the hook and hang on. The big redfish will also take the crab. Enjoy....and be sure to try the shrimp and grits! Sullivan's on the island just south of IOP or The Mustard Seed over in Mt. Pleasant. Not sure about the license requirement....used to be you only needed the saltwater license if fishing from a boat, not from the shore. Might have changed since I was last there a couple years ago. The SCDNR website is pretty good and should have all the information you need.
  10. That's why I'm relocating to NC next week! See you on the Chesapeake and OBX forums! (I'm sure its the operator of the machine, not the machine itself)
  11. We NEED the thunderstorms!
  12. OK...kicking my *ss. I try that and I get... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v= lkFMJ4-ai1I &color1=0xb1b1b1&color2=0xcfcfcf&hl=en_US&feature=player_embedded&fs=1"> lkFMJ4-ai1I
  13. Absolutely agree NYC gets a bad rap. Compared to 20 years ago, its a different world now. People couldn't have been more helpful during my most recent vists as I tried to navigate the subway. In fact, everyone I talked to was great! Even comfortable enough to let my two teenage daughters out and about on their own. I might be just a farm boy...but I love the city today....Boston on the other hand....you can keep it!
  14. Here's the best place to fish for our beloved striper.... Time the tide, drive as far east as you can, park where you can, hit the beach while its still light and find a place where water, rock, and sand all come together either in the wash or in the current. Claim the spot by standing there until dark, and then start fishing! Someone needed to answer the question!
