  1. Good day all, I have searched on here with not much luck. All the luck I have ever had fishing the canal, has been fishing the west current. This year I have tried fishing an East current a couple times, without much to show so far. Very strange fishing my spots backards from what I am use to. Just curious, what are the current preferences, and why? I love the non stop learning that is fishing the canal!
  2. Thanks for the advise Albacized. I have debated using electrical tape, as that is what I use on my freshwater pole. Never again will I spool without a backing, my lazy ass thought I could skip a step! Like I said, I did put a few yards of mono on before respooling, seems to be OK now. Thnik I might have had my drag too loose after respooling just now, so it still moved. My dumbass move of the day! The spool moving freely while fishing scared the crap out of me at first though, thought my brand new reel was bad! Respooled, with backing, all set now. Thanks again! Oh, and my first outing, last week, with the new rod. Pleanty of mojo put on my new rig. Three stout shorts, and a 40"! First ever!
  3. Hello all, Long time member, have not posted in some time. Hope the spring bite has been most bountiful! I recently purchased a new Shimano Baitrunner 8000OD to replace my old Baitrunner 6000. I love the baitrunners fo their reliability, and versatility, a true workhorse. The new models are very well balanced as well. Anyway, I spooled it with #50 powerpro as I always do, and for some unknown reason, the line on the reel spins on the spool. I noticed three casts in while jigging. Under tension, the whole spool full turns. I have (with the help of my old reel) taken the line off and respooled. I have the apropriate mono backing, and I spooled the line back on nice and tight. Any ideas on why it would do this? Thanks in advance for any wisdom shared. Tight lines, John
  4. Personal best, 44" 33.11lb Sunday am. Down deep, in the very am Must say, when use to landing 30" fish, is is frikin scary hooking up to a cow. Especially the first one in a current!
  5. Item sold through the BST forum. Thank you SOL!
  6. I did post in the BST first but I would much prefer seeing someone local get it.
  7. I am 6' 2" about 205. I believe the weight limit is 350 on the 120 model but I am not sure.
  8. I have a Wilderness Systems Tarpon 120 for sale. I hate to sell it but back problems are forcing me to sacrifice. Rigged with a scotty rod holder. $500.
  9. Thanks Smacker for the bump. It is a great ride and I hate to sell it but with newly acquired back problems, I would rather see it used as intended. Gonna miss the sleigh ride.
  10. For Sale is my Tarpon 120 in very good shape. No leaks and is a very stable ride, and tow. Complete with a paddle, and a scotty rod holder mounted. Pick up preferred, Located in Plymouth Ma. $500 I will be taking some pics and uploading tomorrow.
  11. My sister is an executive there. Very nice, quiet community to live in. Many things to do in the activity center there. From a full gym, court, indoor pool, dining,to even Vegas poker night. I highly recommend Oak Point.
  12. A very quiet morning indeed. Cold too, got there around 5:30 also. Witnessed the birds and breaking fish to the west. I must have chosen the wrong spot, as not even a follow on what I was throwing.
  13. Happy Fall to all, I fish with two setups, one heavy (for jigging) and another lighter for plugging and throwing tin. My lighter setup is a 9' rod rated to 3oz with a penn slammer 560 w/30lb powerpro. When throwing pencils or poppers on my lighter rod, every third cast I get a knot. Usually 2-4' up from my lure. Like clock work every time. I can't find any knots on my spool but on every third cast I can hear one going through my guides causing me to pause on my retrieve to get it out. Anyone know what could cause this? I use good swivels and always reel in any slack before my retrieve. This is just aggravating the heck out of me. Any ideas?
