Spending time with my 3 young kids. Fly fishing.
  1. Hey Mike. Apologies for the slow response. They were cut by hand. It's been a while but I believe I did the rough cut with both a band saw and a dremmel tool and then finished off using sander. The PVC is mounted to a piece of starboard with a half circle cut out to match the diameter and then that piece is mounted to the rectangular strip of starboard. As mentioned before not my original idea just modified from what was posted on SOL. Let me know if you need better photos and I will head out to my boat when I have a chance. Also attached the stainless through holes I slide the tips into. As well there's another photo from someone else's idea.
  2. The 1st/2nd photo reflects my set up from PVC mounted to starboard. The cutout naturally locks in place along with reel weight. The tip end inserts were already installed in my Southport. Because I'm particular (life long battle) I bought ice fishing rod covers for the tips. The 3rd photo I believe I captured from a prior SOL post - I copied someone's idea and the adjusted (tip section) accordingly.
  3. Hey Tom, I'm in. I wouldn't know what to do with the bucktails but happy to make the donation. Just shoot me a PM. Similar to Buster (but I think he's younger than me) I was diagnosed with juvenile diabetes when I was 18 and have had it now for over 32 years. "Knock on wood" I haven't had any issues. Neither will your granddaughter. Joe
  4. I fished southern Belize last May. Stayed at Belcampo. Not cheap but awesome food and amenities. First day I fished they paired me with a guide who had no clue. I had a discussion with the head fishing guy and he credited me for that day and then paired me with Yogi who was available for the next 4 days. Overall I had a great experience and the fishing was awesome - caught permit, small tarpon, bones and snook. Yogi did a great job and had a great attitude. Don't know why the tried to pass of the inexperienced guy on the 1st day but they fixed the situation. I'm always up for variety, new locations, etc. but I would go back to Punta Gorda/Belcampo and may do so next year.
  5. I'd take the 2nd line for $30 shipped via paypal if you're interested. Thanks
  6. Thanks Esa. Yeah it's interesting. I cast the NRX 8 wt and Hardy proaxis 8 wt both 4 piece. Both cast an 8 wt rio bonefish very well slight edge (for me) to the NRX but the hardy casts my streamer express short 300 grain much better. It was a 10 wt floating line I used wth the sage One but don't remember the brand/head size etc. Loomis got back to me (after 2 weeks) and said the the NRX 4 piece 8 wt weighs 4.8 oz. and the 12 wt. weighs 5.6 oz. By the way, I also cast the sage One 12 wt. when I cast the 10 wt. The 12 wt. was amazing to cast.
  7. Thanks. TRB. For sure not cheap at retail. Sounds like you've compared them side by side.
  8. Sorry wrong forum. Please delete here. I pasted to FF Forum.
  9. Does anyone know how much the 10wt NRX weighs? Loomis doesn't publish weights but they pitch the NRXs as 25% lighter then previous Loomis rods (I think that's what the marketing materials say). I have a CC GLX which I like a lot but at over 5.5 oz. and blind casting for muskie with a 400 grain head it can get a little exhausting by day 3 and does feel a little like a broomstick. Looking for a lighter 10wt. Tried the Sage One but felt a little flimsy at the tip especially with the sinking line (just my impression) but also with a 10 wt floating line. Just for kicks I weighed my NRX 8 wt and it came in at 4.2 oz. which is the same weight as my Sage Xi2. Thanks.
