  1. Lew, Thanks. The side plates are black, but they look blue in the photo. I'll clean it up and lube it, and try it out. Report back.
  2. We are fortunate to have a good albacore runs every couple of years. When they come the fishing can be incredible. We handed maybe 15 or so fish in 4 or 5 hours that day. Lost some, too.
  3. Quote: Okay Short Bus, let's get going. Show us your stuff. Apologize for the delay... Here is the C4 that I just got: Here is the 6500 XX I bought cheap off eBay... and partially disassembled: Any hope to make this one a good caster?

    Offshore Reels?

We found an albacore school on a weedline and decided to throw some flies at them. This was taken on one of my Squid tube fly imitations. Stan is a basic kinda guy. Probably the reel seat was malfunctioning and he decide to lash the reel on the rod. Worked just fine and he landed a nice 25 - 30 lb. albacore. Stan also holds the IGFA Fly rod record for white sea bass.
  6. Yes - a Reddington BW (9/10 wt. size). It was a good reel for the money, but not quite up to the Tibors. But the Tibors cost about 4X more.

Is the engine fuel injected? What fuel are you using? Is the idle smooth or rough?…???
  9. There are practical limits to how much drag can be used in any reel. For most fishing 25% of line capacity is plenty of drag. Some might go as high as 40%-50% of line capacity. Given this, the fact that tippets tend to be the weakest link, and the drag on the line created by the water as the fish runs, relatively high absolute drag capacity is mainly 'specsmanship'. Far more important are smoothness over the range of the drag and infinite adjustability of the drag from zero to max capacity. Just saying'.
  10. beautiful work, Bunnymoney. I'll try to get mine photographed today and post it up...
  11. Two things... On my Landcruiser, I had the wheels (factory forged aluminum) powder coated. It has not come off under some strenuous travel conditions. Might alleviate the corrosion problems some of you are seeing. I do not run my trucks on the beach much, but when I take my Parker to Mexico, I launch a 5000 lb. + boat and trailer across the beach daily with my F350 CC. I have Toyo M55 tires and air down to 15 lbs. I also have driven short distances on pavement with the tires aired down and the sidewalls are undamaged. When I bought the tires, the dealer said I should air them down to 55-60 PSI for driving unload and air up to 80 PSI for towing. I gave up on Goodyear and Bridgestone tires - too many sidewall cuts. No worries with the Toyo M55s.
  12. I'll try to take some photos and post them tomorrow. Thanks for all the comments… sounds like a Carbontex conversion should be on the short list. Speedwell - Alan Tani lives a few miles from me, I believe. I have explored his web site and found some useful tutorials. One thing that I noticed as I had the reel apart was that the level wind was easily the biggest drag (source of resistance) slowing the spool. How much would a level wind mechanism with ball bearings help this?
