  1. I hope the info helps, have fun, and let us know how yall did
  2. Hi Reel, I'm new to the forum, I was in Nags Head with my family the middle of August, there was plenty of fish around. The best surf fishing I had there was actually just north of Avon NC on hwy 12 at ramp 34, there is a large parking area there with a boardwalk over the dunes. My boys are a little young for surf fishing (5 year old triplets) but they had a ball watching me catch fish. I was using fresh shrimp on a river rig ( a 2 hook rig avaliable at most tackle shops in the OBX) I stood in one spot and caught 20 fish in less than 30 minutes...spots, croaker pompano, sea mullet and black drum. While these fish are not red drum or bass they are fun to catch in the surf, especially for young boys. In the OBX the bottom fish are right in the wash, I was catching fish in the breakers. I think the river rig is very important, it's tied on fluorocarbon with 2 circle hooks, I was on Jennettes pier one day with 2 rods , one with the river rig other with a standard 2 hook rig. the river rig out fished the standard rig 3:1, I think it provides a more natural presentation and easier hook-ups . Fresh shrimp work better than frozen and is readily avaliable there, bloodworms work well but are expensive and were very difficult to find while I was there. You can surf fish pretty much anywhere there but I had really good luck in the area around Avon (about 40 miles south of Nags Head). Hope you guys have fun and catch fish, nothing like fishing with your son's.
