  1. Buy the best that you can afford or justify, then go fishing! It is a long journey and I am sure that you will be asking questions like this one a few more times.
  2. dnk2013, Thanks for the kind words! I can see that this hobby is quickly becoming addictive! I hope to get in the boat and test these out for action over the next few days.
  3. ctilley, I just started to make my own wooden lures so I don't have a lot of experience in that area, however as a furniture maker (hobby) for 25 + years, I would say 1 coat would be enough if you are going to prime the bait as well. I would give the spar a quick sand prior to primer. If you add a 2nd coat, make it very thin as you will be adding weight.
  4. Benny Raw, Thanks for the help. Greatly appreciated! So I will attempt a couple pics for now.
  5. Hey folks! I am new here and this is my first post. I am amazed by the amount of knowledge and apparent willingness to help each other out that there is on this site. I am new to lure making but not woodworking. I have been building custom floats and fly boxes for a while and decided that I should give this a go. I was going to post a picture of my 1st salmon trolling plug on the lathe and then finished, but I can't figure out how to add a picture. Thanks for sharing!
