  1. I absolutely love this thread! I'm an old Point Beach guy, grew up on Freedmans bakery. Buttered hardroll was a staple every week!
  2. My big question is - what are they looking to achieve by getting this data? They are looking to see how rivers put sediment into the ocean, and how that sediment gets buried under the ocean floor. Sooo, how is that useful to anyone? Im sure there some intelligently-sounding reason.
  3. I'm having a hard time following that one - what exactly is that in the water on the bottom photo? Deeper water?
  4. Quote: The pumping began in earnest in 1994. The first place they put sand was Monmouth Beach. Sand was pumped all summer of that year, putting jetties out of sight and extending the beach a few hundred feet out to sea. In short order, it washed away. They did it again. It washed away. They did it a third time. It washed away. Along with the original area, they began to pump Sea Bright. They did that area a couple of times as well, all this to the tune of between 60 and 90 million dollars of taxpayer’s money. It is washing away again as you read this. This is unreal. Whats a few hundred feet worth? I wonder what the baseline amount of beach was back then, compared to what it is now. Is that published data? If it hasn't worked through these year, ***? I know we are not dealing with rational people here.
  5. All of this is really upsetting. Question - with all the loss of structure about to happen, do you think there would ever be a chance that the ARMY corps would create an artificial structure(s)? I know that would be a solution hard to reach from the surf, but its somewhere for the fish to live.
  6. Great information guys - I really appreciate it. I've got cabin fever, so I took him to Spring lake today. It worked out well. No fish for us, but a bird dove 15 yards away from us and pulled a nice fish out of the water. My son got a kick out of that. Looked like a trout. Overall it was a good time. Thanks again for the input.

A bunch of guys here are memeber and can provide more specific information. Thats great Charlie - thanks. Funny, when I look back, Spring Lake is the first place I went fishing (totally forgot). My grandfather took me there with a bobber and a Lb on Bologne. Sunfish galore. I assume its cool to go there before the season?
  8. Good Afternoon everyone! TGIF. I'm looking for some advice. My son is 3, and intrigued when I talk about fishing and head to the beach with the guys. I took him to the beach last weekend when I tossed some lines, and that was stressful (he's not ready for that). I'm wondering if anyone has a good reco for a lake/pond in Monmouth county-ish that has good car access. I'm not looking for your top secret spot, just a place I can go that's clean and has the potential for fish, some room for my boy to run, and a place I don't need to walk a mile from my car with him and gear. I'm trolling google maps now, but thought I would throw this one out there. I hope the weekend is good to everyone --looking forward to seeing pics with some good catches.
  9. ^^^ Nice fun catches this early. Hello - I'm new to the community. Born and raised jersey shore guy. I do both fresh and salt water all year round as much as I can (which is not that much). I have a lot to learn, but whats what life is all about. I hope I can contribute and help others like you guys have helped me through this forum. Its been dead out front in NOMC, and Sandy hook (1 boat in the RB). Despite the terribly low odds of getting anything alive on my hook, I got the itch and went out anyway. It was good to catch some fresh air and be outside.
