  1. I was surprised too since I really like Grundens products. I fished it in a nor'easter last year and found out the hard way. Same thing just this past weekend on the Cape: it was fine for the first few hours but then started leaking. Now it is hung up to dry out so I can wear it in the next few days.
  2. I have the Neptune anorak and I would not recommend it for fishing in the rain for long hours. It starts leaking after about 2 hours. Now I use it as a wind breaker or for short outings in light rain.
  3. Are you sure? I was there on Wednesday when a guy from DMF pulled over and took down one in front of me. He said he had 50 more to take down.
  4. Same here. I fish it one month in spring (April) and one month in Fall (November) but i have seen the EPOs a few times. Rangers or Fish biologists(fish survey guys) almost every single time. One of the biologists told me last fall it was the last year for surveys so I guess we won't seen them again this spring.
  5. Me and my buddy each got one from the rocks on the North Shore in 2010. His was 31" on May 31 and mine was 24" on June 6, same spot on chunk while targeting stripers. I started using strictly lures a year later so i haven't been in that area to look for cod. Won't be surprised if there is a shot at cod from shore in the same area nowadays.
  6. I can't comment on the other 18 states but in MA it was all laid out upfront. If IRS decides to change how the tax rebate in MA is treated it would be pretty scummy on their side.
  7. Not really. Not a recent decision. It has been on the gov website since the state has declared the rebate in MA. It impacts only people who itemize on their federal return because the state tax paid reduces their taxable income. The state tax rebate results in a lower state tax payment hence their federal taxable income would have been higher. In essence, if you got $1,000 tax tebate and you were in the 20th percentile tax bracket you would have to pay an extra $200 in taxes. So no recent screw-job decision. It was all laid out upfront in MA. If the IRS now decides to treat it in a different way then I will agree with you.
  8. It is already decided for MA. Not taxable for state taxes, taxable for federal taxes only if you itemized on your 2021 federal return. You can find this info on mass.gov website. I assume it is not as clear in some of the other 18 states that had issued tax rebates/refunds hence the IRS warning.
  9. I have seen it in a few bars around Boston. It is posted on the menus as well so you are aware of it before placing an order. However, it also states that it is optional and you can request it to be removed from your bill. I don't mind it since it's just a few bucks and you have the option not to pay it. I think they called it Service Fee and it goes to the kitchen staff.
  10. Yup, we must have fished the same area. Unreal bite!!! There were days I would hook up or get hits on every cast for a few hours. It was my best fall at the Chu and I fish only artificials. I was done with the salt at the end of October and started hitting the Chu since then. I never got skunked this Fall which is unbelievable. There were always lakers willing to play and many days I got them in the double digits. Same observation as you though: nothing of size, most fish were 16"-17" with a few over 20" in the mix but I will take it. I am already excited for opening day in April next year!
  11. Hi guys! What brand knives would you recommend for filleting tuna? Do i need a special style knife or would any fillet knife do the job? I did some research online and it seems there was a big variety of options: regular fillet knives, leaf knives (kind of pricey), special tuna cutting blades, etc. So what do you use to fillet rec size bluefin? Thanks in advance!
  12. I talked to two staff members while they were kicking us out last night. The first one told me they were understaffed and the order came from ACOE. He said if we complained to F&W they would most likely hive us access to the fish pier parking lot at least. The second staff member told me it was due to kids being rowdy at night and some major construction project going on in the next couple of weeks so they did not want our cars to get in the way of the construction vehicles. He said it would be like that til the end of the season.
