  1. Nice job, beautiful fish, what state did you catch that slob in?
  2. Sassy shads, mepps #3, #4, or #5 and slip bobber with suckers or shiners (quick strike rig).
  3. The thing that people forget about when fishing with topwater baits is that it is a completely different hook setting motion that you do than you would let say a bucktail. While using topwater while musky fishing I have always paused a one one-thousand count and then done a swooping back then up motion (which isn't the best explanation but google search it a lot of stuff on this.) That said I have got over excited and screwed this up multiple times, but when doing this i have greatly increased my hook up ratio, especially on walk the dog baits. I think if you have package for the topraider still they explain this on there. Also to put my input in on the speed thing it all depends on situation but mostly you want the thud nice and loud so you can't work it too slow, but I have had the best success with topraiders and lee choppers when it is wavy (especially) or at night, and pretty much always black. Another thing that i have experienced is that they want it at a consistent speed through the whole retrieve which is weird bc every other bait i use i usually switch speeds in the middle of my retrieve to trigger hits and to find what speed they are looking for it at. Best of luck to all in their Musky hunts.
  4. I have been looking into both those lakes, and would like to make a trip to them, the problem is that in New Jersey you need some sort of boater safety course, which I don't have. Also from what I have heard about both is that they have heavy boat traffic on weekends which is understandable both being larger lakes in populated areas. As far as the "Larry", as I have been seeing it called this, I plan on making as many trips up there as possible. We have some great Musky fishing in Wisconsin, but from what I have heard this place is about 10 times better for size. I have heard that the Larry is trolled primarily, does anyone throw Lures up there or is that just a lost cause? Obviously I realize that you have better chances trolling, but just very much enjoy casting for Muskys. Also, I have been doing some reading about Susquehanna River in Penn. does anybody have any info on where is a good area on that to fish for Musky? b/c it is a huge river. Also, I have read some archived online articles about Black Lake, which is pretty close to the Larry, and have heard that it is a hidden gem of sorts, but all these articles that I have been reading are pretty old, and I believe that they quit stocking there. Any more info is greatly appreciated. Thank you for the info Mike.
  5. I starting to do some surf fishing for Striped Bass since I am out here now and most of my tackle is compatible, and you are not lying about how challenging it is, every bit as challenging as Musky fishing. Musky fishing is something I will never be able to give up though, and as long as they are only a couple of hours or more I guess (they are always worth the drive) from where I live I figure they need some attention, b/c I know I miss them.
  6. I am new to the northeast, I currently live in NYC, I grew up in Wisconsin fishing musky for most of my life. Musky fishing is a addiction that you cannot shake, so of course I have been doing a lot of looking in to musky lakes and rivers out here and have found that there are quite a few in Upstate New York, New Jersey, and Penn., currently I do not own a boat but plan on getting one for next summer or possibly even this fall, so am looking for any info on where a good spot to rent a boat, stay, and fish for musky would be, and of course the boat rental would have to have a depth finder and trolling motor, I do not really have preference for river or lake cuz I fished both for musky quite a bit in Wisconsin. Any info is greatly appreciated, and if anyone heads to Wisconsin I can give them some tips and good lakes to fish there. CPR
