  1. Best I can offer is $475, plus up to $20 shipping, I would assume from NJ, to Florida - 32561
  2. Interested in reel. Photo of open bail indicates that bail doesn't appear to clear spool at top of spool travel? I only ask this, as my Accurate SR12 had the same issue, and I had to send it back for an adjustment to bail wire. The SR 12 has otherwise been an excellent reel. Would like to add an SR 20 for offshore work. The SR30 is just too massive.
  3. As you can see from my post, that's not what I offered................I was just curious as to why a response was made to someone else relative to a trade situation, but not to my outright cash offer. (*edited - his comment was edited, no need to address it further - TimS)
  4. Just curious as to whether this is a reply to my offer last week. Seems like I never received a directed response....
  5. If you still have reel, I would offer you $375, with no backing. Will also pay shipping to 32561
  6. Also, contrary to the wade fishing and dunking mentioned on this forum, most Van Staals here are pretty much strictly used on boats. I have more photos from different angles.
  7. Here is a photo of mine. It's about 10 years old or so. Serial number 2662. Has the internal counter weight. I bought it new and have virtually never used it. For offshore fishing here, it is just a bit on the tween size. Looking for a larger reel for Cobia, Amberjack and Rig Tuna trips. The reel was sent in for service several years ago, but really hasn't been used since. I have several more photos. Just a very few very minor knicks and no corrosion anywhere.
  8. I have an older VS 200 which I might have interest in trading. What info. would you like on it?
  9. Will be there also at very end of July, for scalloping. Lots and lots of Sharks and ladyfish. May pick up some Pompano in the surf or a Redfish or two. But plan on Ladyfish, Sharks, and those wonderful hard head Catfish. We saw some huge schools of Tarpon moving up the bay from the mouth last year, and I also poled the Maverick several mornings across the flats, but all I got for it was near heat stroke. Water was beautifully clear, and grass beds were in great shape. I just think the water temp. was too high. Redfish and Trout had moved off the flats.
  10. Grew up with the very same hull, same year even. We had ours rigged with twin Johnson 70's. Powered it well. My younger brother and I ran the stink out of that boat, skiing, wake surfing and fishing offshore with my Dad. Great memories. I remember the weak links being the low transom, which you've apparently addressed, the weak support around deck openings, and the shallow V hull offshore, which would pound a bit. Always felt like the boat could handle just about anything though. Pretty efficient hull from a planing standpoint. A pair of those new light Yamaha F70's would probably be an incredible match. Single Yamaha F150 would be good too probably. Good Luck with it, a real classic. Oh yeah, that brown deck could get real hot in the summer.
  11. Agree on the Sage TCR. My go to 8 wt. for windy bonefish flats in the Bahamas. Certainly has spoiled me, but haven't had the opportunity to try the Helios yet.
  12. In that price range, I'd consider the Ross Reels also. Have had pretty good luck over the years with the basic "M" series. Nothing fancy, but very light and durable, especially in the salt. Have fished the M-3, M-4 and M-6.
  13. Lipping or using a Boga, with additional support under the tail of the fish generally appears to calm most fish when landing. Have seen Jose' Wejebe do this numerous time on a multitude of species. He generally reaches over the side, maitaining tension on the line, and lifts them, by the line, with support under the tail. He and I did this together last December on Bull Redfish, and it was amazing how well this worked. Fish were quickly unhooked and returned to water. A wet hand or wet towel insures against removing too much slime. Leaving in water is preferable of course, but from larger boats with tall gunnels, not always practical.
  14. I would research warrantees on them before buying, even if it is only a $100 reel. Past experience usually indicates that less expensive generally means more susceptible to corrosion in the salt. Fresh water not nearly as much of an issue.
