  1. Johnson for me. I can't back Hillary. If it was Hellary/Trump I'd vote for Trump. Even my lib wife will vote for him over Hill.
  2. In the early morning ours is filled with the birk crowd, mostly 60+ year olds. Went the other night, it was a good 50% yoga pants and I don't mean the ones that have you retching. I like the heavy cream, and the hazelnut cookies are pretty good too.
  3. I bought a 2010 Outback over the w/e. 2.5, CVT. Got new tires and the water pump/timing belt done as part of it. Really happy so far. 29mpg so far, which is a far cry better than the 21 I was getting in my old car. Lots of room, finally a vehicle where my knees don't hit the console. Recling rear seat is sweet. Best part is my surfboards will fit inside of it. Went the dealer route from the guy we got our Prius from. Price was fair and wasn't too bad compared to what some of the private sellers asked. I looked at a ton of 4Runners around here. Many had frame rust or were priced highly because they didn't. Found a pretty Tacoma but the owner had sprayed the frame w/o fixing the rust - my key poked a hole in it. Gave up and said what the heck, I had a 'bu in the 80s that was a blast, maybe I'll go back to driving one.
  4. I use Waze. It isn't too bad on my phone. Usually I open it up when I'm nearing cities that might have traffic problems. MotionX has a good one, too. I used that on my ipad, along with a bad elf, while we were in northern Quebec last year. More of a mapper than GPS but it came in handy.
  5. Ack, how about a warning next time?
  6. I hope things turn out OK and he's back home soon.
  7. He doesn't have to. All it takes is a rumor and boom, things move on their own. These people are really grasping for a way up and if their next hope & change candidate seems like he can offer it, they're on board. Like I told someone today, rather than waiting around for some flying unicorn to dump money into your lap put down your weed, get a haircut, take a shower, and learn some skills that will get you a better paying job.
  8. I'm looking to purchase a new (used) vehicle that can serve primarily for road trips, forest service road trips around here (Western NC), and some DD work. I have a car I'll use as my DD until it officially dies (93 bmw 525 with 274k on the odo). I'd like 4x4 so I could have to make the walk from the billy mitchell ramp out to the beach (my fave place to go fish, surf, etc). MPG is an issue to some extent, if I can do high teens on highway I'll be happy. Trying to find something comfy enough for load road trips (1500miles RT with some comfort (I did a 500 mile RT in my brother's JK....never again). Looking at 13/14k. Next year I'll be replacing the BMW with something better for my commute. Needs to hold 3/4 people, sometimes a dog (that can ride in the back). I haul yaks/SUPs/surfboards, but I can manage to put anything on any roof thanks to my McGyver-like skills. I looked at Subies and 4Runners. I'd love a 4R but anything in that range here has 225k on the clock, even 3rd gens are 8k+ at 200k+. None of the Subies did anything for me. Looked at Tacoma (I'd need a 4dr) but they're in the mid teens with 200k on the odo. Here is what I'm looking at: Pathfinders to 2008 Pilots to 2008 (I heard 2009 went to unibody) 4R to 2006 Explorer (up to 2007 or so) Tahoe (more vehicle than I need, but they're everywhere) Not sold on Jeeps, I had a GC as my old work vehicle and it went more time in the shop than the Durango we had. Ideas? Zip is 28804.
  9. The Bernie supporters I know hate Hillary and Trump (it's a 50/50 split over who they hate most). One believes that Bernie is going to immediately hit those in the upper tax brackets hard then trickle that money down, she believe is so much that she's making plans for how she'll spend it. Another is pro Bernie because she thinks Hillary is a trainwreck (no arguments from me). He lost my vote (which he never had anyway) when he let BLM walk all over him at that rally.
  10. I had some crab aprons in a plastic container once. When I stopped to get dinner on the way home I put the bucket of tackle inside my truck (J20). On the drive home I had to do an emergency avoidance maneuver on the highway and the bucket spilled over. I got home, got everything but the container, which was under the seat. As the J20 just such outstanding MPG I didn't drive it to work. A week later I got up to drive to Hatteras to go surf. Loaded everything in the bed, and when I opened up the door. Well, my god. I had no idea anything could smell so bad. I opened the doors and sprinkled carpet cleaner inside. The smell never really went away, either. :\
  11. I had a 99 for work. Once I drove to the coast and back at 55mph with 4 passengers and hit 18mpg. The rest of the time 16. Cruise made a huge difference. Stop and go killed it. But the room. One of our surt trip guys has one, we can fit 7 guys in there and 12 boards on the roof plus a cooler/etc in the back. Inside it will hold a bunch of gear w/o intruding into the driver's area. Get one with a 44 gallon tank and you can hedge gas prices.
  12. Maybe pictures of the body will come with time. Leaving the body there for people to dance over would do nothing for us. Hell, for all we know he's alive and injured and sitting somewhere in our custody.
  13. We've been dicking around in the sand for so long I think it would be a shock for us to quit. We've been around in wars longer than my kid has been alive. :\\ If he is to be beaten then one of the other parties is going to have to come up with a viable candidate. No Trump, no Palin, someone who is strong enough that they'll pull in votes from the left. I voted for Obama and while I'm not overly pleased at what he's done (ok, I'm pissed that he broke so many promises) I cannot vote for another candidate until they put up a good one. I'm not voting for T/P as I don't think they'd be any better and I'm not wasting a vote on a 3rd party unless I believe in them. I live in a fairly liberal area and still see a lot of support for him. I know more than a few middle of the road libs (like myself) who are sitting on the fence and want to vote more conservatively but can't - not given the current candidates. I would have voted Huckabee or Romney, even Ron Paul. Hillary? No. I also know a lot of libs who aren't overly happy with Obama. He's said that he'd get us out of the sand and while he's scaled back Iraq he still has our kids dying in Afghanistan. Libya is a clusterduck that we need to avoid to. I can see supporting the opposition in Libya but I can't see our stepping in. Then again I wasn't all for going into Iraq either, which I thought was W's (and his cronies) stepping in to finish Saddam after Bush Sr wasn't able to. I hear a lot of people referring to Obama as "Obomber" now, which isn't something that the dems need, especially in a liberal strongly such as this. I also know more people who will vote for him anyway as they still associate the Repubs with the war, high oil prices and candidates that are catering to the minority of the right. Just my 2 cents.
