  1. I know it's difficult ,just ignore them, act like they are not even there, nothing pisses them off more than being ignored. Getting into discussions with these types is a losing proposition , they don't care what you think or have to say, it's all about their self centered agenda. Always take the high road, to them you are just a fish killing googan, no matter what you say your wrong.
  2. The canal is just a big river that happens to change direction 4 times in 24 hours. Fish when the current is not at it strongest, fish the seams and eddies just like a river. I use 20lb Berkley Big game on conventional, never had a problem with 40 lb fish ,most fly line is 30lb test or better , fight the fish from the butt on a long rod not the tip.
  3. Though it's been several years since I have 2 handed the canal ,I used to use a CND 11X11 Oceana, never experienced to many issues on 40" plus fish. I could skagit cast or overhead if room was available.
  4. hey Quahog, been awhile since I,ve been on this site, but I see your just as crusty and opinionated as ever:D
  5. I predict ,it won't be long the way things are going that the "ON THE WATER" tournament will go the way of the great "SCHAEFER" tournament went.
  6. Totally depends on where you are fishing, shallows ,creeks for the most part will be smaller bait as mentioned, sand eels, silversides if you venture towards bigger beachs along the back side you might happen upon herring and mackerel so your looking at flies up to a foot in length.
  7. I used to raise springer spanials,of the ones I kept 99% of them were trained to poop and pee in the same area on the property, just like training a puppy to go on paper, like anything it takes time and dilegence, every time you let them out you have to stay with them and direct them to the designated area.
  8. I think every community has leash laws, why do people think they don't apply on the beach? I've had dogs and am getting another soon, they are always on a leash ,unless trained to heal and come on command without one, I've had several occasions when fishing or just walking along the beach when someones dog comes running full tilt at you barking, and the owner yells don't worry they won't bother you and they jump up at ya,this behavior to me is unexceptable. My wife and I had dinner reservations and decided to walk the beach to kill time well sure as hell this is what happened the wife had white pants on the dog jumps up and now she's covered in mud ,slime and what ever else, the woman with the dog thought it was funny ,needless to say we were'nt happy,I told the woman to grab her dog she looked at me like I was speaking a foriegn language, she understood when I said it again a little louder with more meaning with a few "f' bombs thrown in for clarification. If as a dog owner you don't mind a unruley dog that's fine ,but when it effects me and others that's when it becomes a problem.
  9. Cabelas Threefork rods are listed as moderate/fast action rods,in my opinion they lean more towards moderate than fast, which means a slower stroke due to slower recovery time.I have several different cabelas rods, for the money they can't be beat.
  10. Why would someone install a hardwood floor in a bait shop?
  11. Barnstable Harbor like the canal has no fish and never will!
  12. Don't know ,don't care why,all I know is when I am; I'm happy!
  13. I don't get it ,a guys says he keeps 2 fish, and he gets the third degree why he keeps two fish, why not he's within his legal right to keep two fish.I'm all for catch and release and 99% of the time I release all fish caught, but there have been times I've kept two for dinner when people are coming over ,to feed your freinds and family a dinner of fresh caught striper is a treat, and it's all legal.
  14. God speed Stan! Stan is a true living legend, Always happy and willing to help someone with their conventional casting. One day he noticed a flaw in the way I was throwing the conventional,in 5 minutes we had it figured out and I gained tens of yards in my casting.
