  1. Thanks for the response - went out there with my friend in his 18ft, mines a 21ft. Heard story's of seas at 12ft.....
  2. Mentioned in another post - did an overnighter going to Block Island last weekend. Lanch out of Orient Point Restrurant Marina - ramp use was $20 bucks. I normally lanch out of Captree (great south bay), the difference in the water was unbelieveable. ....Smoother...Cleaner...... Going to Block Island with a friend (18ft Striper) traveled about 25mph, coming back cruised about 35mph. Didn't get a chance to fish. On the depth gage many spots where in was deeper that 100ft. Passed several party boats, looked like people were landing their catch. Blackfish season is coming up really soon........
  3. Cool - thanks fior the replies, a good topic for a day fishing.
  4. Last week did an overnight boat trip to Block Island. On the way back, 17 miles away could see the tip of what I thought was Montauk Point lighthouse. As I got closer could see it was a Radar Tower. All the pictures in books, TV, Newspaper I have never seen this. Does anyone know the story behind it?
  5. DT - not a big deal, I got busted last year for three undersized fish. (It taught me a leason)...... On the back on your summons, it asks you how you plead. There is an address where it send it. Mail it in, in about 3 to 4 weeks you'll recieve a fine. My charge was $45.00 per fish. Pay it, and you will remember not to keep undersized fish again....
  6. Bunkerdunker17 I feel your pain, but your doing the right thing. Sunday was out with a friend and his 10yr old son, fishing under bridge near Captree coast guard station. Landed 8 fat fluke, below the 19.5" in lenght keeper requirement. Threw them back. Also caught a few sea robin's, and one large Blue. So far this season I have been throwing back almost every fluke I catch. Notice the fish I'm catching are fat. By the end of the fishing season, hopefully there's going to be alot of "Doormat Fluke" around to catch and keep..... .
  7. Dito on the Fishfinder.. see him out alot near shore. His passagers always catching. Captain Rod, fished along side of him out pass the 5 mile bouy. He does ok. The problem with the party boats, it can get crowded......... Lately not many people catch anything big around Captree. Last weekend caught and released two 4' sand sharks. A few months ago went out on a party boat out of Montauk. Left 11:00pm.. friday night. Started fishing at dawn, back to the dock at 7:00pm. Brought home 75 lbs of blackfish. Worth the one hour ride out there....
  8. My adding my $000.02 Put Red Firewire on four of my rods. Made the rods look good. I fish in Great South Bay, out to 10 miles off shore. Still have five rods clear Power Pro. Sometimes I'm out by myself, other times have three other fisherman on my boat. My rods with Power Pro line, been catch more than the Firewire. At the time thought I was getting a great deal on the Firewire, brought eight spools............... ....
  9. Latest Story The body of a man believed to be a Setauket fisherman who went missing Friday was found yesterday, Suffolk police said. The body was spotted by a police helicopter about 100 yards off the shore of West Meadow Beach in Stony Brook, police said. The body, which has not been positively identified but is believed to be that of William Rihm, 45, was submerged in about 3 feet of water, police said. The Suffolk medical examiner's office will conduct an autopsy. "He was a good father, devoted husband, had a great sense of humor and loved fishing," said his sister-in-law, Sylvia Allen, 48, of WesthamptonBeach, who believes the body to be Rihm's. Rihm was last seen Friday about 10:30 p.m. when he left to go fishing. The next day, when his wife realized he hadn't come home, she called the police. Rihm started fishing as a child growing up in Queens, Allen said. He became devoted to the hobby, she said, fishing five days a week if the weather permitted. Rihm, an adaptive physical education teacher for New York City schools, was looking forward to summer when he could fish every day, she said. West Meadow was his favorite, Allen said. "He was very cautious," she added. "He never took risks when he was fishing. We don't know at this point what occurred." Rihm has a wife, Katherine; a 13-year-old daughter; and a 10-year-old son. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- It's disbelieving to hear what happened - same age, married, have two kids, my heart comes out to his family........rip..
  10. Sweet - what were you using for bait, size weight, how deep? Went out yesterday, caught 16" fluke (throwback), 10 sea robins, 20 scates, and along of sea weed.........lol....
  11. You eat those criters????? Have scar on finger from two years ago, trying to get a hook out from one of those. Now wearing gloves when handling. Out last weekend 2 miles out from Jones Beach, landed two large ones. People always ask - can you eat those things??? I end up throwing them back. I moved to another place, caught nothing but sea robins. Now water temp mid 60's, has alot to do with what we catch, begining of last month water temp mid 50's. Blues were biting big time. Mid August two years ago caught 32" fluke near Demo Point water temp 72 degrees. ........
  12. http://www.blockislandreservations.com/ Above link is for hotel reservations - honestly I have never set foot on the island. Been within a few miles on party boats. A 17ft whaler should be ok to make the trip from the main land, forget about it in fowl weather. You are going to be dealing boat rental, ramp rental, four people on a small boat, etc... This is a vacation.... You coming all the way from New Hampshire - take the ferry across to the island. Check in to a hotel. Spend time exploring the island. Maybe do a charter for a fishing trip. ...her and her 3 kids..... You see more and keep everyone happy...... My $00.02
