  1. Anyone know what they're doing here? southsidee.mp4
  2. that's fine if you're not needing a longer leader, where you're casting the connection through the guides......like with BFT etc. I use what's appropriate to the situation. Spros don't go through guides very well....
  3. growing up in Miller Place, our go to was taking the boat to the Flax Pond beaches, just west of Port Jeff. You can likely access remote beaches with your boat. 18' CC is ideal for this on LI Sound........ Steve T
  4. my first level wind reel, was a 7000 ambassadeur, and it was great. First fish though, a 42 lber. on an Atom 40, and the side plate comes off while I'm fighting it. Didn't know you had to tighten those screws...... Steve T
  5. true, but I'm talking about the second thumb; your line laying thumb on the non- level wind Squidder and others.... Steve T
  6. problem with the squidder is you need two "educated thumbs" Left and right. Good solid classic timeless reels. I love the 6500 and 7000- Ambassadeurs; not as solid, but easier with the level winder. Steve T
  7. I use Korkers boots with studded soles, and occasionally NRS Dry pants.
  8. Maine to Montauk: A Striped Bass Journey 1950 to 2021 Burns, Brad and Seasons of the Striper: Pursuing the Great American Gamefish Bill Sisson Anyone read these? Steve T
  9. I'm sure I read it in one of his books. I just love the old New England surfcasting articles and SWS covers from back in the day. There is an article "1977.Frank Daignault, Slaughter at Pochet Hole" in a book I just ordered; Stripers: An Angler's Anthology by John R. Waldman Steve T
  10. Anyone know which issue this was in?
  11. OK, Thanks for your advice. Again, what's wrong with a VS on tuna? Got any kind of answer? I'd really love to know what I've been doing wrong all these years........ and, I've done my share of swimming to rocks at 3 am on cutty and block with the same 275, as well as under the light at montauk.... what's your point dude?
  12. ok, I'm no expert, only been at this for 60 years.... and I've had no problem with the multiple 200 pound BFTs I've gotten to the boat quicker than my buddy with his Stellas..... again, what's your problem?
  13. lots of folks, including a number of guides up here on the cape use VS reels for BFT, dude. No problem ; 15-20 mins to the boat, just like with a big 50 or 80 trolling reel. My priorities seem to be just fine; what's the problem? Steve T
  14. why? Same drag as my VS 275, and I fight fish with the rod, and not the reel..... I don't see the problem. I am glad that the 5 or 6 200 pound bluefin I've gotten with the VS 275 and plugs were no bigger..... Steve T
  15. Personally, I never winch. I pull with the rod, and retrieve line as I drop the tip when fighting a big fish. I always wanted to hook and land a big (200 pound plus) tuna with my VS 150, or maybe even a 704/706 (same drag) but never got to it...... I'm sure it would work..... Steve T
