  1. Just a play on 'rock lobster'. I've got the last name of a famous... or infamous gangster. Mobster just fit right in.
  2. A few years of baseball, softball and basketball but 17 years in youth soccer for ages U6 to U23. I wish I could pass on my experience to all of the frustrated parents that feel as though they're raising the next sensation. I've got ex players coaching their own teams and a dozen or so in the pros. I'm actually spending the weekend in OC Maryland for an indoor tournament this coming weekend... except this bunch is more concerned about the party at the nightclub on Saturday night. Great group of young men that'll carry wonderful memories for the rest of their lives, courtesy of team sports.
  3. DaveS... way to go! Congrats on a great fish. CnR, you're outta line. Your position has some merit. Most folks would agree. But a medium fish? I suppose if DaveS had hit the lottery for 100 mil you'd wonder what all the excitement was about. Hell, I'm sure the record is well over 300 mil. And just so you might understand the psychology behind 'earning' and 'paying dues'... victory is always sweeter when you put your time in and work hard. You'd be surprised how good payday feels when it comes after 20 years instead of 20 minutes.
  4. Just to think, yesterday @ 9:30 I was getting dental work done and Allen... he was simply takin' care of business! Way to go Allen. I agree with the other fellas, it couldn't have happened to a nicer guy. Val
  5. Only in America! Vote for your favorite war bunny
  6. Alright Allen! The guys are right. You realize this deserves its own thread. Val
  7. Thought this was a good article. Wish I could remember which sol'er originally posted it. http://www.4x4now.com/sfjun96.htm
  8. Trophy skates! I had one sit on the bottom last year and I couldn't budge 'em. I fished another rod and that one sat in the holder basically free-spooled for 30 minutes and she never moved. I think she fell asleep.
  9. I tend to agree with you. And I also know some guys that could care less about tides when it comes to beach fishin. They'll have a favorite... dawn or dusk. I'm thinking maybe it'll be a good idea to make sure that at least one of those days, I hit the low water mark at mid-day. Either way, it'll be a lot better than a day at the office.
  10. Thanks Anthony, I usually don't get a chance to hit the beach until fishin' is in full swing. If I'm not sure I can get fresh down there I'll hit Lexington Market here in Baltimore and buy some butterfish, spot or mullet. I'll be in the OC/AI area at the end of March and I know that this year especially... that's gonna be early. Since I'll have 'other' things to do while down there I'll only be able to get in a few half-days of fishing. Approx 5 o'clock high tide... would you fish the early morning going tide or afternoon/evening coming tide? Gotta pick one! Val
  11. What's wrong... can't read my mind? Early spring surf fishin'. Thanks, Val
  12. How do you prefer to fish 'em? Early outgoing or low water... anything fresh?... big baits, little baits???? Am/PM? I know the water is cold but the day's are getting longer and sooner or later (sooner I hope), a sleepy rock is gonna chowdown on an offering. Val
  13. Ishmael... that's a term we coined when fishing around the rocks out there. It wasn't unusual for tourists or other 'unaware' people to get surprised by large, rogue waves and suddenly find themselves swimming for their lives in rough, deep water with strong current. So it's more like ignorant humans 'being unaware of' the currents. But you know how you feel when some ignorant guy exhibits contempt towards you? That's how we felt about those currents. Damn cold water too. Val
  14. Dave, I had an aussie shepherd/cattle dog mix for 13 yrs. Had to put the ol' girl down in 2000. I've had labs, german shepherds and a host of other breeds but she was without a doubt the smartest dog I ever owned. Lotsa energy and a cast-iron stomach. Ate bugs, worms and just about anything that crawled in front of her. Yuck.
