  1. I own and throw both...completely different actions....the Drumgun, still a light rod, does take a bit more effort, and IMO, will throw more weight, although both rated to 12 oz (LT Max). The SMM loads so easily and with a simple unitech cast, which i use, will render superb distances and can save the back and shoulders. If I'm planning to throw 8 oz or more, I'll use the DG.
  2. Brian, no question...its the Surf Machine Max....I'm on my second one and the distance that can be achieved with a simple unitech cast is amazing....saves the shoulders, arms and can be sent to the outer bar. In fact, I can achieve more distance, unitech cast, with the SMM than the drumgun with same cast.
  3. For the AT MGS 14000 XSD MV has a tapered spool that is not advertised as a tapered spool...its teflon....and gets much better distance than the non tapered ones....pictured below is the teflon (tapered) and aluminum (non tapered)....both type 5 spools which holds the most line MV offers. MV offered several discounts over the holidays.
  4. The DrumGun blank comes 13'6', not 13'10'.
  5. The Century Drum Gun is an amazing blank....the 13'6" is usuallycut back to 13', usually 3 or4" off the tip, remainder off the butt to get the 6-12 oz rating. I compared my CTS 1305 to the Drum Gun and the DG beats the CTS every time in distance.
  6. I have the Aero Technium 14000 MGS XSD, 45mm spool stroke, the new one. Distance is much better with the MV spools because there is a slight taper and they're much lighter...
  7. Think they're still making all the Vapor Trails except the 13' that was rated 4-8, and incorrectly rated that....its 50/50 and Id rate it 2-5...but it will cast a mile effortlessly.
  8. Trump and Nikki.....would bring in more women, and may, just may, tone down the Donald, maybe...probably not.
  9. I'm not sure of the Loomis status....if still available I will take it.
  10. You asked for opinions and I offered mine.. I'll be honest, not suggesting your agreement .......never seen a 2500 or 1000 spooled reel that I would classify as longcast. However the long standing Daiwa tournament Whisker series SS2600 (26mm) was among the first to offer a fairly long stroke spool that is still loved by many today and offers excellent distance. The 1600 and 1300 do well also.
  11. I don't classify a spinning reel as long cast unless it has a spool with at least a 30mm stroke....35 is better and then there are those with 45mm.
  12. Recommend you focus on line diameter more than lb test because it varies greatly between manufacturers. For example, 30lb samurai is thinner than many of the other common 20lb lines.
