Hobie Kayak Crack Repair Service
PeteD replied to BassinJ's topic in Kayaking and Kayak Fishing Forum
Back in the day, Kayak Fishing Stuff's Jon Shine helped me fix a big crack with GFlex epoxy. It worked great. -
I got 2 blanks from NFC this year. One fiberglass and a 8 wt. When they have a sale, buy them. NFC is owned by Gary Loomis, and the rods are great. When my son made eagle scout, Gary sent him a congratulations letter, and 3 blank rods.

The big Sieglers have up to 40lbs of drag. Wes created them because he was fishing for GT and they would blow up other reels. No other reel has as much drag as even the small Sieglers. Last year was a great year for big stripers, but if you fight a 40lb fish on a 9wt, you are going to spend a half hour resuscitating that fish unless you can get them in fast, and you need a big drag. I was fortunate to try out the prototype on tarpon in Florida, and I can tell you he has made big improvements. I have a Makos and a Charlton, and Siegler are the new Charltons. In fact when Wes was building his reel, he completely disassembled a Charlton to how it was made.

Nice reel. Whats the max drag on it. I heard it was pretty high

I think the tough part now is finding guides willing to do it. It's very hit and miss. We would go for three days and were lucky if we landed one. Lots of shots, but it was no albie fishing. Terry Nuggent was a great guide, but isn't going to do with the fly anymore. I heard Joe LaClaire is still taking shots at them and he was really good at it.

I broke a fly rod that someone built for me a few years back. I was able to find someone selling the same top of the rod, but it has single foots and the one I have has snakes. I want to replace the single foot guides with the snake and use the same pattern as the rest of the rod. My concern is how I take off the single foots without damaging the blank. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I have a 4 piece blank, it does not have a sticker on it and I am trying to figure out what weight it is? It looks like an 8 or 9, but I'm not sure. Is there a measured way to determine what it is?

Nice rod. Don't see many people using 1 piece rods. I love them. What guides are you using? I have a Hardy 1 piece and its got all REC guides. I'd love to see pictures of the whole rod. -

I am biased, because my son is a guide in Montauk that Winston sponsors. I got to use the new Winston line up, and they are really nice. I have Scott rods and they are great, but the new Winston line up is extraordinary.

I love my Colton reel. For the price you can not beat it, and Bob is great. I once had a problem after beating the heck on that reel, and fixed it and got it right back. I would recommend it any day. Congratulations.

I have all kinds of flies, but by far my favorite way to catch them is when I can get them on any popper. Its not the most productive fly, but is sure is fun when they come up and smack it.

The one piece Hardy rods are the best rod I have ever used. I have 4 of them, all 9 Wts. I know a guide who had GLoomis one piece rods and wondered if they still made them.
-
Could not agree more. They are all over, just has to be the right tide. Also saw tuna within a mile of the beach. Tons of sand eels
-
Its close the butt is .588. I have 1 full wells EVA handle. What would be the best way to bore it out, or should I just get a cork grip and bore it out?

Really nice shots. Montauk was great this year. Someone told me it was the best he's seen in 35 years. Loads and loads of sand eels. Bluefish still around, but I can't wait for Albies.
