richs started following Headlamp and Permit / Pass / License overload
-
So I have my PA, NJ, NY freshwater licenses, my NY&NJ marine reg licenses (NY doesn't appear on my mobile app), ordered my gateway and jones passes, have my NY DEC water supply pass. Will need RI salt water license in the fall. I don't really begrudge all the permitting- they need to fund their programs, most of which are quite good. (PA is getting pricey at $75 out of state with trout stamp). What I really don't like is how the purchase method changes every year. The dates the purchase window is open, online or in person or some combination thereof. Gateway used to be easy- buy it at the shack 24/7. Now you buy on-line and take receipt to office on limited days. I'm sure people are bailing on it because it's just too complicated or they can't make the dates work.

Late to the game with this, but can you flip through that book and see if there is a picture of guys lined up targeting weaks in the canal?- 33 replies

My Straight Mono vs Braid with Leader Findings
richs replied to faithless's topic in Freshwater Fishing
I don't see ever going back to mono. I mostly fish jigs in deeper water. No line twist, better in a cross breeze, I can set a hook with just a rod lift. I fish mono with live bait and a full flouro set up for drop shotting. -
You in GA? Floated the flint river many moons ago and got a few (and my first bowfin). It was super flooded so not much fishing.
-
Wish I could justify buying this. Sweet rod.

It doesn't look like the Modern version of Chartreuse- more "buttery" which I would prefer. Sorry to be a pain, but could you put something like a stock parrot next to it in a pic for comparison.
-
Is that chartreuse in #7 accurate color in the pic? Sort of a pearly yellow? I don't see it in current stock colors.

I've been liking J Braid x8 white for distance and fishability. I use gliss for freshwater trout. I have a spool of 12x Daiwa Sensor 22lb on my desk. It feels like J Braid 8. Not sure what to do with it yet. Maybe put on a reel for albies and bottom jigging. It's super expensive, so just one reel to experiment with.

Thanks for all the responses. For now, I'm gonna pull the batteries when not in use. I suspect it's drawing when off.

I know this is well covered, but feeling lazy. I have a Ptec headlamp that I love and somehow haven’t lost for many years. I especially like that the default light is red and you can click through to white. But the thing eats batteries at inexplicable rates. I rarely have it on, so I’d guess it needs new batteries after an hr of run time. This odd and any recs?

Are double in line hooks with sinker still legal?
richs replied to Howie38's topic in New Jersey Fishing
Why would you throw them out? Just replace the hooks.
