bob_G
I can't imagine how the wild turkey are going to fare this winter? All of central Ma is burning under more than 3' of snow with more falling as well speak. There was almost certainly a winter kill last year. I'll bet this one will be even more severe. stryperStalker
My mom had 5 of them filling up at her bird feeders down on the Cape before the storm. They swing by her feeders and roost around her house pretty regularly. They seemed to be doing fine, although they didn't come back after the storm, so who knows. Plug and teaser
I think there getting hammered : ( Saw a large group roosted last week and there was no way they could fly down into the soft snow.... Now 10 to 15 below zero....
BrianBM
So, practice your fox and coyote calling. There'll be lots of fruity carrion around in the spring, the pups will all be fine and healthy.
Wigeon
Ours got wiped out LAST winter...can't imagine what this one is going to do to them I know a guy a little northeast of me who had a half dozen fly up to roost on his property last winter just before a huge ice storm.... They never came down alive.....the ice froze their nostrils over and they died right in the spruce boughs..... Coyotes, fox, and hawks will surely give them hell too...... KidDkivahh
I haven't had a single bird yet this winter. Not that I get a lot of them to begin with but when bad weather hits I will get a few birds hanging around my feeders . I hate to say it but I'd bet they're gonna be mighty scarce come spring. clambellies
Here in New Salem we usually get turkeys under the feeder, not this winter. I think the deep snow tends to keep them in one spot and not eating much.

A couple flew from tree to tree while we were watching.......I wonder how many are dead now.

Chunkah
The wild turkeys we have around here are a nuisance...haven't seen them in at least a couple months now.
ChocoLab
prolonged periods of really light fluffy snow as deep as it's been for the past month isn't really good for anything i don't think, except the critters that live under the snow in winter
Tailslap
I saw them around my yard for a couple days really struggling after the first big snow storm. They looked confused and were flying a lot which I don,t see them do often.

I don't have high hopes Bob...the ridge I hunt in Beckett went from covered with birds in 2013 to completely void of life last season...not a single gobble, not even from the yards in the valley...3 feet of fluffy snow doesn't help at all... b-ware
I haven't seen a turkey since early January, although we have some really deep snow up here I am beginning to see deer on the south west slopes digging for food. Just like the Sandy Neck beaches, mother nature has a plan................. PS Just wonderin how the seals are making out in this weather
