Sorry for the title but this question is geared more toward reel twinks than rod differences. So if I'm looking for maximum distance, other then swapping out reel bearings and special lubes for those bearings, is there anything else mechanically I can do to increase my distance? Is there anything else I should look at?

Your sorry? I'm sorry, I know next to nothing about the daiwas. I did own a black 7ht for short time. About the only improvement to that reel was a brass sleeve and washer combo that fit between the crank and the frame. This part either home made or from blakdog provides support to the crank and maintains proper alignment of the gears during heavy loads. It wont make it cast any further, but it may make it cast "longer" so to speak. :)

From what I've read, the best thing you can do with this reel to gain added distance is to take a lesson or two from someone who knows what they're doing.

Good Luck,

Lew ;)

That reel has superb distance capability out of the box........recommend ditching the mechanically mods and work on your technique.
