theminnow23
What do you guys have for rulers and or scales on the yak? I'm picking up a 60pound boga for the surf but would like to have something on my kayak
CTLIS56
I don't have a boga. but I use a "ruler" that a tailor would use. I can just roll it up after and it takes up no space at all. I think it goes up to 60 inches. perfect for a quick length and girth measurement.
spitdog
I have tried those stick on rules for you rod and paddle and in short time they peel off. What I use now is a home made rule. I used a plastic 1/2 wide tape also known as a seamstress tape and glued it to a 1 " wide piece of plastic molding. It floats. It measures and it was easy to make. I have been using this the last 3 yrs. They do make fishermans paddles with the tape measure made into the Handel so you don't have a problem with it failing. ProwlerFisher
i use the walmart green board for tog and fluke and smaller stuff. I keep a soft tape with me and a long ruler sticker on my paddle for large measurements. a simple LEASHED fish grip makes life alot easier. gellfex
You can get a 4 pack of those tailor tapes at the dollar store. As for gripper, I've got a cheap boga clone with a 3" piece of pool noodle on it's loop of cord. Would keep it afloat, but I've been curious what would happen if a decent size fish got away with it. It would eventually just bob to the surface with the fish still on when the fish tired, right? After losing a keeper fluke last year transferring it from net to bag, I started grippering them from the net. I have a Rapala 50# digital scale but I don't take it on the boat. MVDCGTO
I use those cheap soft tape measures my tackle shop sells. They usually will throw in a couple when I purchase stuff there. Only issue I have is the markings are red so at night that doesn't work for me with the headlamp so I used a black sharpie and put marks at 28, 32, 36, 40, and 44". For the surf I use the 30 Boga, the 60 was too heavy and I didn't like carrying it around. Island livin

danlikescoldbeer
The Hawg Trough is the best I feel but you need to add foam and reinforce it well for it to last but they are cheap. You can read it well esp when taking pics for kayak wars and tournaments. I carry a tape as well for longer fish. Rumor has it Luther from Yak Attack is working on a new bump board. sytheteacher
On my rod off the front grip I place a piece of pen striping tape around the circumference of the blank the correct distance to measure for stripers and fluke ...
mattman
I use the green bump board from Walmart, about $10.00. Also have a "tape on ruler" on my paddle. If you participate in the Jamaica Bay tournament they give you one for your paddle.

turkaholic
It's unfortunate there is no scale that works well for the yak. The tailor tape works pretty good when it's light out.
computeruser
I have black pen marks on my rod grips starting at 12" form the butt up to 32" every 4"...everything in between I eyeball...should be within 1"+/-...if it is very close to the limit length then I take out a tape for accurate measurements...
