It's late January, and all I can think about is my first trip to Cutty in late May / early June. We're going to head over a day early, and fish through the night before checking into the club the next day. I've seen the pictures and heard the stories, and can't wait to check out the beauty in person. Planning on packing as light as possible without forgetting anything. If there was one thing you would not want to go to cutty without, what would it be?

Gear - 2 rods, 2 reels, waders (maybe wetsuit), drytop, boots with spikes, 4 tube bag

For the bag - Redfins (bone and black), sluggos (9" and 12" various colors), SS needles (bone and parrot), SS darters (bone and parrot), Pencils (various sizes), Dannys, bucktails, riggies.

Extra gear - leader material, swivels, clips, hooks, split rings, spool of braid

Miscellaneous - extra headlamp, batteries, extra laces, GoPro, aquaseal, crazy glue, bug spray, sunblock, powdered gatorate, water bottle, energy bars

I'm not including whatever we're going to bring for food, but nothing crazy.

I have gone the last two years in early spring. Pretty quickly I decided that a wetsuit is a must for me; over waders. My buddies had waders; and many guys do use waders. The boulder covered shoreline can make finding a nice place to cast from more of a chore during the lower tide stages though. A wetsuit gives you that few extra feet you sometimes want; not necessarily need.

I'm still up in the air about the wetsuit

I've been there at least four times, but not for fishing believe it or not. But I can say just by walking the shore line that there are boulder gardens a plenty and you may have to wade out a significant distance to get any kind of water under you. There are deeper spots closer to shore too, but you will need to find them. Save some time for a fair amount of daylight recon before you night fish and wear boots with good ankle support.

It is also a lengthy hike to the other end of the island, longer than I thought the first time I went. But you don't have to go that far for good fishing either. ;)

I was too. Brought my waders and wetsuit first time out. Won't go back with the waders though. Its just a comfort level thing for me so thats why wetsuit is my number one necessity.

I am not one of those guys that swims out 200 yards during 3 ft swells and a ripping wind at 2am. I will swim or walk out a little over my head though 50 yds or so and get set up so my lures can be worked all the way to my feet and not start banging bottom 6 or 7 feet out from me in the shallows.

The nice thing is Bonnie will meet you at the ferry and take you up to the club with all your gear so you can feel pretty good about bringing plenty of "what if" gear.

Bring a nice camera if you have one. On a nice day there isn't many nicer spots on Earth.
