Kml
I was riding the ferry from Atlantic Highlands to NY this morning at 7:30. There was a concentration of commercial net boats ganged in around where the channels split up to Earle and the reach etc. There was at least 12 boats in there and I did see two working together pulling a net into a circle. What are they catching in there that would get so many boats in a small place?
bass40
Sure it wasn't crab dredges?
Kml
The two that were working together had a seine in the water. We passed them close enough to see and they were closing it into a circle.

Chazz
Is crabbing allowed in Raritan Bay? I thought the area was closed due to pollution and contaminants.
bayyaker54
Is crabbing allowed in Raritan Bay? I thought the area was closed due to pollution and contaminants. I think it's only the Arther Kill, and ONLY on the Jersey side. So, I guess there good to eat on the staten island side.
fluke07
Yea, the crabs know they are not allowed to cross over into N.J. and then go back.
NJTramcar
Yea, the crabs know they are not allowed to cross over into N.J. and then go back. Â Port Authority has a tiny, waterproof toll booth at the bottom that stops them. Â The crabs hate crossing because they don't get a discount with their EZ Pass. bunker86
Maybe not this time, but in the middle of the night , you can see some rather suspicious activity in the bay. Hell, who's going to stop them?

lureman
i remember years ago, while fishing the tips of jetties in NMON. COUNTY, at late nites in the summer the BEDFORD PIRATE BOATS would show up and net all.the adult bunker in the area. These sc##bags would be within casting range with theirs lights all dimmed so no one would see them. That ended in 2002. And the following spring of 2003 started our infamous SPRING BUNKER.RUN! ,,,,,,, and the rest is history either good or bad - Butch N. A beach is a place where a man can feel, he's the only soul in the world thats real ; A jetty is a place where a man feels, he must have a bucket full of eels.
