nipsip
Seems he had a soft pellet gun and the cops thought it was a real gun. Maybe someone should tell the cops that Ohio has an open carry law. I guess it does not extend to soft pellet guns, just real ones.
DarterMan
For some reason I thought this happened days ago. I wasn't aware that this just happened yesterday. I guess we were all caught up with the Ferguson thing.

TimS
Doesn't matter what kinda gun or permit you have, if the cops tell you to show your hands - and you have any kinda gun - and you don't show your hands or begin to raise whatever kinda gun it is, they are gonna shoot. They don't care what kind of permit you may or may not have or what model/brand/caliber the gun - you raise it or refuse to drop it, they are gonna drop you. I realize this was a kid and it was a fake gun - but your point about an open carry state doesn't matter - you can have every permit in the world, you raise a gun or refuse to drop it and you are gonna get shot. Sad that it was a kid TimS Show someone how to catch striped bass and they'll be ready to fish anywhere. Show someone where to go striped bass fishing and you'll have a desperate report chaser with loose lips.

I think Parents can blame themselves for that imo. "The toothless, braindead, *********, geriatric mouthbreathers around here love their "safe space". It is the only place in the world where they feel like winners, the gracious thing to do, would be to let them enjoy their delusional reality." -Numbnuts
gadwall8
I saw the video, the kid was pointing the gun at the cops, who were called to the park because the decedent was pointing the gun and making terrorist threats to citizens in the park- play stupid games, win stupid prizes. "I came into this world naked, screaming at the top of my lungs, and covered in someone else's blood. I got no problem leaving it that way."Who can hope to be safe? Who sufficiently cautious? Guard himself as he may, every moment's an ambush. Horace

Digger in Va
Cops out on a gun call are real jumpy and for very good reason. It is a very sad accident. DiggerinVa

Sad that it was a kid TimS It is quite shocking that a child was gunned down for waving a toy gun around in a state where it is legal to wave real guns around. The same bill calling for toy guns to be brightly marked should also call for police officers to be equipped with brains. If brains are too much to ask for, they should try training. nipsip
Where were his parents? There is no justification for this shooting. Police have at their disposal non-lethal means of dealing with precisely these types of situations. This appears to be more a case of homicide than protecting the public. Kids just don't respect the Police in general anymore. I think Parents can blame themselves for that imo. It was a 12 year old boy playing with his friends. The cops were told twice that it was not a real gun. If they had stopped at the scene, remained in their vehicle watching the boy for 10-15 seconds they could easily have seen that the gun was a toy. Instead they ran in and gunned down a child.

Yup - and the terrorists on flight 11 told the passengers that if they sat quietly, they'll be ok....gonna believe everything you hear?

What I meant was, where were his parents while he was left to his own devices and allowed to point a very realistic looking toy gun in the faces of strangers?
