When the weather is "HOT" So goes the fishing. Stay away from Sept. through mayby Dec.. Chubasco (hurricane) season. Mid summer is best. Brutally hot but the fishing is AWESOME. East Cape is your most economical and GREAAAAT fishing. East coast is awesome but more expensive. Dicier too imho as it is on the ocean and not in the Sea of Cortez which tends to be more stable (read "flat calm" and pretty easy access to all kinds of beaches. West coast is good but accessibillity issues as well as harder to find acceptable accomidations. Have not been to Zijuantenajo but I hear it's good and have no problem believin that but I think more expensive than the east cape. East Cape has a LOT of good fish that will chase Sardinas right up on the beach making it very easy to spot good productive spots. Just look for the boiling sardinas. Mostly Roosters and Cabrilla (small grouper) both of which are just killer off the beach. A cast net will get you all the bait you need. That's all I got My other rod is at your Mothers house! 2dogs
I HIGHLY recommend Hotel Buena Vista on the East Cape. They are right on the beach. I have been there twice recently. Accomodations are nice, pool with swim up bar and the food is exceptional. They can hook you up with a guide to fish the beach, or rent an ATV and go on your own. They also have a fleet of boats with top notch captains. They will pick you up at the airport. It's about 1.5 hour ride to HBV. Felipe and Axel will take good care of you. Spend a day with Victor on his panga chasing roosters. I went in October both times and it was great weather. Caught fish everyday, roosters, snapper, dorado, sails and stripes. Looking forward to going back.
GoldDigger
This little cold front has me thinking the same thing. I don't know much about it but it sure sounds good right now from where I'm at.
RoosterSeeker
If you are taking the family, let them pick the spot, then come back and get the details ya need!! Depending on the time of the year you would like to go, fishing is good from La Paz all the way down to Puerto Escondido and all points in between!! Different months different fish. Got your heart set on a species? Give a shout out!! Someone will know where and when!! Roosters should be building in the Zihuatanejo area from now until Jan. Then it's off shore with Spinning Gear for Sailfish (with Mariln and Tuna thrown in depending on currents) though about March!! Woo Hoo!! Then May though July can be awesome for Roosters again!! Hanging out in a hotel with Wifey gets old if your not newleyweds. Had it happen! Two thousand hard earned cheddar blowin in the wind. HBV is a VERY good resort experience for the money. Good value, may be the best value in the world imho! My other rod is at your Mothers house!

clambellies
I second the motion on Buena Vista resort. It was one of the great fishing trips of my life. I went in Sep also, but knew going in that Sep could be a roll of the dice. There were no storms and the sea was mirror calm and the fish very cooperative. Great food, Great accommodations, Great guides, great scenery, great fishing period.

A marlin? NEVER! Dorado? Possibly but it would have to be a very rare instance and would require a very steep dropoff. Both are pelagic fish and require deep open water. Perhaps someone else can explain why but in all my time I have never seen either one close to shore. Certainly not within casting distance. I could be wrong but I'm not! There was a sailfish caught from shore in mass recently, and I know there are spots where dorado can pass through, and of course there most likely was a deep drop off area.... remember its a big ocean and anything is possible.....heres a pic of a marlin from shore: GOD made my Mold different from the rest, Then he broke that mold so I know I'm Blessed.
