spinncognito
Anybody out there smelt fishing? OTW report indicated good numbers but I have had no luck in my limited attempts so far here on the North Shore. Leaving for a vacation Sunday and want to catch and eat some this week before then. Thanks in advance for any reports (feel free to PM me with specifics if you are so inclined! )
hotfishgirl
I have tried many spots in the past years with little to no luck. The spots i fished as a child have been very disappointing.I have grass shrimp, even live ones if your looking for smelt bait in Plymouth. bdowning
Another fishery that just ain't what it used to be. Good to know about another grass shrimp outlet, not many shops carry them anymore. Great trout bait too. -bd Pfantum Pfishah
spinncognito
Have never used the grass shrimp. I find the best bait for smelt is...... smelt. After catching the first one I fillet it and use tiny strips on a Swedish pimple. Last year was a bad year but hoping this year they make a comeback. Nothing better than real-time info, especially given that pathetic year that everyone experienced last year. Besides, sharing is caring and this smelt we are talking about, not bass. Thanks to those who have already PM'd me. Looking forward to some fresh fried smelt!

I catch them on the sabiki rig all of the time but I don't toss em back. They go nuts for cut silversides.
