ccb
If you where to move to florida and wanted to fish, what cities would you retire in?
RebelMusicNP
Ft Myers and Sebastian would be my top picks. I had a girlfriend that moved to Florida for graduate school at UCF after we graduated from TCNJ. Spend 4 or 5 years down there constantly and fished my way around that whole state. There are tons of little spots I like....Longboat Key, the main keys, Anna Maria.....but those first two would be my picks!
Local66
Jupiter if money weren't an issue. Sebastian isn't what it used to be, I used to spend 4-5 nights a week down there before the freeze. Double didget nights were fairly common, now I put in 2-3 nights for every snook caught, sometimes more (but I'm picky about my methods). albacized
I fish both the gulf (sw part of state, both venice as well as Naples) and the se coast in the juno/Jupiter area...my observation is that if you simply want more fly rod opportunies and have more bends in your rod, the west coast is the place to go...however, if you're looking for a better chance at a trophy fish, the se coast offers that...just my .02 cents  But I have to offer this admission, I fly fish way more on the west coast while I primarily spin fish (for big jacks, albies, barracuda, etc) from a pier on the se coast, basically just dabbling with some surf snook on the side
ccb
Alba, I think your right on. I fish Siesta Key, Casey Key down to the Venice Jetty. nice area. Maybe the bigger ones are on the East Coast., deeper water?
muskeget
25 years of fly fishing in Jensen Beach (just north of Stuart on the east coast of FL) and no plans to move. Excellent fly fishing in the Indian River Lagoon estuary, along the ocean beaches and offshore as well. IMHO, Best snook fishing in FL! Armed with everything but a clue... Dansmith
I don't fish Florida very often. But I travel for work and pack my fly rod quite a bit. This was palm beach in May. Jack crevalle on a surf candy on my 8wt. This was a public park/beach. There were lots if fish around including barracudas and blue runners. gman1253
Spent a few months (Dec - April) this last winter around Juno & Jupiter. The wind was really tough & constant on the beach - had to use spinning tackle even that was a stretch. Never saw anyone throwing a fly in the winter on the beach due to that wind - only in early May. Â Lots of opportunities in the lagoons/ rivers in that area though where you are out of the wind. Lots of guys just have small boats to do the lagoons/ rivers inter-coastal.
Fly Time
I have fished SW Fla. a lot, Marco Island to Naples for me. Good beach access and the coastal public parks can be excellent. FLY TIME
titleguy
Alba, I think your right on. I fish Siesta Key, Casey Key down to the Venice Jetty. nice area. Maybe the bigger ones are on the East Coast., deeper water?  Until kids' sports starting getting in the way, I fished Siesta Key every April. Eventually, I ended up solely targeting the big jacks- up to 25 lbs. Used the same clousers for them as I do for the big albies in NC 9 same rod too.... I would ******* LOVE a grave blanket.

albacized
Did you catch that in Lake Ida? I go down to that area every July (actually to Juno/Jupiter, which is 10/15 miles north of where you are)....I've wanted to dabble in that lake, but have yet to pull myself away from the saltwater scene...in any regards, congrats on a nice peacock
