nipsip
GALVESTON, Texas — Almost a decade ago, scientists from Canada and the United States reported that they had created a vaccine that was 100 percent effective in protecting monkeys against the Ebola virus. The results were published in a respected journal, and health officials called them exciting. The researchers said tests in people might start within two years and a product could potentially be ready for licensing by 2010 or 2011. It never happened. The vaccine sat on a shelf. Only now is it undergoing the most basic safety tests in humans — with nearly 5,000 people dead from Ebola and an epidemic raging out of control in West Africa. Let me guess why is was never tested. Oh, you know already. No one gives a $hit about Africa.
PCstriper
Unless the company making the vaccine has financial backing to cover the cost of the clinical trials it will never get done. Now when it is needed they will get all the funding they need to complete their research. It all comes down to supply and demand , there was no immediate demand before like there is now so why waste money on something that might never be in demand . Thats just good business sense , not whats best for the population, but for private industry the bottom line is profits . Shipwreck
Who should pay for it? Maybe if the backwards corrupt countries that get all this world aid did not give it to warlords this would not be an issue. Instead blame the tea party. lol "He's a good stick" - Mr. Miyagi" ~ "Yep!" - Captain Dingo "How are you doing that" - Jimmy the Mate ~ "Shipwreck is one of those guys!" - Capt. They don't get much funding during times when the illness is dormant. -
jkrock
We don't need a vaccine for ebola. It's very hard to catch. The OP is just fear mongering. "mother Theresa was a POS"-fish'nmagician

jkrock
African need a vaccine. Health care workers need a vaccine. It would be a huge step in preventing the spread. They just need education and protocols. Every case of a medical worker getting infected is human error. What other vaccines do we have for human error? A cure would be nice, but a vaccine is a luxury. Plus, no one gives a $hit about Africa. The OP got that right. Look at Polio's light versus what AIDS is doing to Africa. If we want to protect ourselves, we need to stop ebola at the hot spot. Otherwise, it will keep trickling back into our country. -

You don't beleive them? It's an education/cultural problem in Africa, coupled with poor infrastructure While we have a stupidity problem here that could impact our ability to control it, the left doesn't seem worried and that's why ebola is not a threat to the US. We are wasting our time with vaccines. Much ado about nothing. Besides, Obamacare isn't going to cover a vaccine for a non threat that trickles in. It's not how it works.
