How's your family's open enrollment looking?

Pretty painful here. More options, all more expensive and with higher deductibles or the same deductibles for truly obscene increases in premiums. Seems to be better to bank the difference in premiums and opt for the garbage plan, but I'll have to run the numbers and also weigh the implications of a worst case scenario.

None of it looks good. Maybe I should shut the business down, live on my wife's income and let you guys subsidize our coverage? Another option is to pay the fine and buy coverage if there's a catastrophe; definitely the most cost effective option of them all.

We were told that the company can do this for about another year.

Then we are on our own.

BACK IN LINE CITIZEN!!!!   You pay up and SHUT YOUR MOUTH!

Shutting down your business and going on the dole is an option to buy insurance and comply with the new law of the land.  Ill tell you, you may not do that, but the fact that it even crosses your mind-IN AMERICA-tells us all a lot.

And you brought it on yourself.  You WANTED the government to run the business.  You.

I forgive.  Cant think of anything else to do.  But heres a damn serious question.  When I see my bills go up, when I spend about 4 grand just to figure out "the new way" to insure my family, when I have my doctor who has been treating me and my wife for thirteen years tell us shes quitting because of this law, what do you think normal, rational people think about people like you?

Still my favorite Obamacare story.

Last spring, I related a story about some people from a small restaurant and catering company.  These kids and old crusty restaurant people told me they wanted nothing to do with Obamacare.  They left wing reply to the story on SOL was that it was not true, and I laughed.

This fall, I heard another group of kids and some older folks in catering talking about Obamacare.  They had just sat through a meeting that their company put together with an insurance company.

They were told they could pay the insurance company 150 a month or pay a fine.  The retort from these kids?   "Yeah whatever.  See ya"

Again, not a true story.  In my business, I have never ever stood on a loading dock with a bunch of kids from a catering company, so it cant be true.

I still cant quite get my arms around the damage you people did to the USA.

Just had the open enrollment talk from HR this week. They did a nice sales job, but in the end we are getting much higher deductibles and less coverages. Thier angle is a new health savings account that will carry over from year to year that you can use to pay deductibles. It's still OUR money we are using. It really sucks.

Sounds familiar, just did mine within the last week also, for about the last 15 years or so I've been able to get a no deductible policy through my employer, but starting in 2015 it's not available, the best plan I can get now is a cdhp with funded hsa that has a 1500 deductible per person, + blah blah blah biometrics, I liked the no deductible better for it's relative simplicity.

Been using the HSA combined with a high deductible plan since 2009 and I kind of liked it up until last year, when the deductibles started getting unwieldy. This year (2015) it's just crazy. It seems to be modeled after BarryCare with bronze through platinum options and derivations of each. The minimum bronze plan is more expensive than the current year's plan and it's 60/40 with a $10K deductible / $12,700 max. To keep our current coverage, the employee contribution more than doubled and they're no longer kicking $1000 into my wife's HSA. They said the costs have simply risen too much. Dental and vision didn't go up...LOL

Through your employer or government provided? If it's through your employer, it's not a Democrat / Republican thing and if it's through the government, guess who is subsidizing it...

Higher deductibles help control cost. If a patient is paying the full reimbursement, they're probably not going to the ER to get an enema because they're constipated. Cheaper to get one at Walgreens.

Higher deductibles do nothing to control healthcare costs.

Although it may provide for a lower monthly premium.
