ktow
Looking for a new plugging reel for the surf. My biggest concern is weight and durability. Currently using Penn fierce 5000, weighing at 19oz. Killing my arms. Wanna hear from the guys using 4500 spinfisher v's, quantum cabos pt50, and fin nor lethal 40 users or any other reel that packs a punch for its size. Woodpecker
I looked at the Penn after using a slammer 360 for a few years. Decided on the Cabo 50...300 yd of 30# braid and under 15 oz. Not much to dislike at the price. Have fished it since May of 2013 and it still runs nicely. Plenty of backbone for big blues and bass.
BrianZ
reel that packs a punch for its size. what does that mean?? how much are you looking to spend?
ktow
250 and under. Looking for around 25lb of drag which holds almost 300 yards of 30lb powerpro. Weight is key, would love it to be 15oz or under.
bbfish
Take a look at the quantum smoke inshores. Solid light reel.
BrianZ
im using a penn battle 4000. doubt it has 25lbs of drag though. whatever it has is enough for the beach plugging i do in monmoth and ocean county. i have taken fish up to about 20lbs on it. it has just under 300yds of 30lb whiplash which is a tad thinner than PP. I will bet its the whole setup not just the reel. ^^ what he said, Penn battle 4000 is a work horse but definitely needs proper care after each outing. I only use it for fluking and plugging for snapper blues during summer and it's great.. Again only an advise. Btw 25lbs of drag is lot to ask for. ktow
The reel doesn't have to have 25lbs of drag. I'm just really comparing everything to the spinfisher v 4500. I figure it has 25lbs of drag around 15oz and hold 300 yards of 30pp. I figured that was the standard for what I was looking for and in a solid price range. JohnnyK
Just got the FIn-Nor Lethal 40. Only took one trip with it and got small bass and blues, but was very nice on a 7' rod. Will probably put it on my 9' rod too. For $100, can't go wrong.

I wish they had a 50 size just to have a little more line capacity on there. Let me know how it feels on you 9'er when you give it a try. I live in monmouth county and the lethal is backordered beyond belief. If anyone knows where I can check it out in person that would be much appreciated. JohnnyK
Put 300 yds of 25 PP on it. Doesn't spool perfectly, but apparently it's better with thicker lines. They say 270 yards of 30# braid, which should be more than enough. Had no wind knot problems and was fishing in 25 mph wind half the time.
