yanke11290
I am kinda new to fishing eels. Was wondering if anyone had some tips or has done this before. Anything would help. Thanks! Sudsy
Inlets and eels go together Egg sinker rig with a 16" leader to a 6/0 Gami. hook the eel up through the bottom of the jaw and out an eye socket. Weight of the sinker depends on the strength of the current. Easy peasy lemon squeezy I just wanta play everyday despite small nagging injuries -- and go home to a woman who appreciates how full of crap I truly am. ~ Crash Davis Social Distancing since 1962

work2much
I second that rig using an egg sinker. Not sure how everyone else who claims to fish using eels on an inlet without the sinker but inlet I fish on.. No way possible you could get the eel down any fish able water column without the sinker. Unless it's some variation of dead tide. Btw what the hell ???? Easy peasy lemon?? What? Hahahahaha!

DonLBI
Slack tide 5/0 snelled octopus Don't bother now--loaded with small blues you'll only be retrieving cigar butts. But not sure after 2 posts you stayed around for an answer:shrug: I'd rather have a bottle in front of me than a frontal lobotomy.
yanke11290
Hey sorry was at work...thanks for all the help guys. Pretty much I just worried because the current is pretty strong...plus i never see anyone fishing eels at this jetty
mericanwit
Also, remember when the initial strike hits hold on and count to 3 slowly then set the hook. Too many times the adrenaline kicks in and you end up pulling the eel right out of the mouth.

Let the fish run, then point the rod straight at it and let the hook set itself. It forces you to take your time. mericanwit
Suds you are so correct! If you do not take your time on the hook set then you will be left with what a previous poster stated regarding cigar butts!
StripersBR
When you use the egg sinker, do you put it on the mainline or the leader?
Madvillain
I always found a fish finder to be a better bet. If you have a baitrunner... Tighten the tension on it as hard as possible so it can't tear off line on you. Also, if you ever have a chance... A bottom bouncer rig similar to what is used on walleye works great drifted. Keeps the bait off bottom, and I find I get more strikes. Good luck!
