I can't take it anymore. Scrolling through the forums here, looking at the front of the line at fishing shows, I am appalled at what I see. So many people hating one another of painted pieces of wood, most of which will never see water. Equiptologists who need the best of every type of gear and who present themselves as "experts". Numbskulls who take pictures of each and every fish they catch and smear it all over the internet as some form of self gratification.

I fondly remember days past when being a surfcaster meant you were a hermit, you lied about where you fished, what you caught, what you used. Plug bags were canvas military surplus with the aluminum dividers, it got heavy, drained like crap, etc. there was lamiglas and penn and somehow people still caught fish.

I'm probably glorifying those frustrating days past. Maybe I'm just a curmudgeon. But I like it that way.

glad its not just me.

i have found that when approached by one of todays many geared out, decked out experts i just cluck.

i just cluck and cluck and cluck and they continue to talk and opine and explain to me what i should be doing or using and i cluck in agreement and then i cluck cluck cluck.

they smile and enjoy my clucking

they seem happy to have shared a good cluck.

now they can go off and find someone else to explain "things" to.

sometimes i just cluck when no ones even there.

cluck cluck cluck

i think i might just start doing it on this site.

it might help people feel good if i just pop in to a thread and just cluck cluck cluck cluckity cluck!!!

cluck.

cluck.

I know what you mean Russ but you can't knock them if they can afford all the fancy bells & whistles hanging on their belts with the $300 surfbag, $300, drytop, $1000 rod & reel and $300 waders. I just enjoy when they come up to me and ask me what plug am I using when I'm the only one in the line up catching fish. :D

One should keep in mind that there are so few surfcasters in the world that we are almost wholesale ignored by most companies and products. Its the guys who are willing to pay $450 for a Jacket and $50 on a plug that keep companies even slightly interested in us. So next time you see one, be glad, they are keeping surfcasting R and D alive and for the most part are not much of a threat to the fish, so win-win...

So anyone who spends 30 bucks for a plug or uses a ZeeBass reel or has a quality surf bag has no right trying to enjoy themselves fishing the surf. Or that the "old timers" were so much better fisherman? That because some people work real hard and make a decent buck they should not be able to spend it on a sport they love?

What are you trying to say here?

Does it bother you when someone is wearing a pair of shoes that cost 5x more than the ones you are wearing? Because that guys feet are more comfortable than yours?

Are you judging people on how they go about "their" surf fishing?

Quite the contrary, they should have the exclusive right to "fish the surf."

Based on how they choose to spend the $$ they earn?

What makes you so special that you should ridicule people who are enjoying their fishing?

And I will not even reply to a Gully post. Just cannot be taken seriously. Does provide good comedy if taken in the right context.
