Not going for the festival but heading down Thursday - Sunday to fish. We are staying at the Sea Shell hotel I think it's called. Not exactly the Hilton but it will work for a couple of smelly dudes fishing.

I have stayed at the campgrounds during the festival before and while it looks like a good time I am not sure I would be willing to fork out the money to stand in the lines.  You can buy a 1/2 bushel for the same price and shuck them yourself while watching other wait in line :)

I hear you. From talking to people that go on a regular basis, it's more about the party than the food. Keeping that in perspective will help with the expectations.

The group I'm tagging along with brings 25-35 people every year, sets up multiple tents, really puts on a show. We'll see, worst case scenario I leave early with the wife and go back to the room or go fishing. How bad is that?

Rods will be with me, probably fish on Friday and Sunday some. Won't be a hard core fishing trip or I wouldn't see my 11th anniversary, but lines will get wet.

Silver 4 Door Taco on the OSV.

Yea, I have been many times, and it mostly is a local thing. They pull out their rigs, set up shop and have a family or group gathering. Definitely, a good time if you set it up with a good group, but as for a out-of-towner looking to eat some oysters, it kind of a disappointment. Although I recommend going down and fishing, but the festival can be missed.

Sorry Lad's, but I have to disagree!

The festival is a blast!  Good food, good music and lots of great people to interact with!

I myself cannot eat oysters (or any mollusk for that matter) but I enjoy the crabs and the atmosphere!  I go with my family and we have a blast!

We get there on Thursday night late.  I get to fish the better part of Friday and then again on Sunday.  (and maybe sneak out a little on Saturday if I get the chance)

I use to go down for the weekend just to fish and skip the festival due to my food allergy, but I suck it up and stay upwind of the steaming/frying tents.

I'll be hoofing it across the sand as I am too cheap to pay for the OSV permit.

Tight lines and we'll see you there!

Since getting the tickets I've been invited to join two different groups who make it an annual pilgrimage. I do think it is not really about the food, and can totally see how if that is what you went for, you would be disappointed.

I mean, you can bring your own cooler, how bad can that be? Now, how am I going to get a cooler on my bike?

That's the Spirit!

The lines are not that bad either!  Well, OK...right at noon they are bad, but shortly after the initial surge the lines are not too bad.  Anyway, that is when you can get to BS'ing with the folks in line with you!

It's all about the experience, and the seafood ain't bad either!

Let's hope the weather holds for Saturday.

We r here now. Did a little fishing yesterday an today. King fish and other panfish so far. Can't wait until tomorrow we will be the zombie group. :)

OSV or walk on? Biters and rays were thick for us yesterday and blues today. Have a few nice kingfish in the ice box for tomorrow. Caught several juvenile black drum too.
