billthe5th
Anyone have any good recommendations for general work? Chains or private places, I would consider either. I need a new muffler/exhaust system, but would like a place I can go to in general. I went to DCH Toyota and was not too impressed with them really, but maybe just bad luck that day? feeling uncreative today
richie c
I've got a good honest guy down by me in Jackson that I've used for 15+ years. Hes next to NAS Lakehurst on Rt. 571 , It might be a little too far for you but if you'd like, PM me for his Ph# RC
Fly By Nite
The closest local guy i've used is in Marlboro, American Automotive. Costs as much as teh dealer but he gets things fixed teh first time. I thought there was a Midas on Route 9 North next to the Carvel that did exhausts... billthe5th
Lost track of this one. Yes there is a midas there, plenty of places that will DO it, I'm sure, but wanted to find places I could get a review of. I think I'll check the one in Marlboro first whenever I get a day off! Thanks for the suggestions, anyone else have any ideas? feeling uncreative today
Wayne Tj
Are you that concerned about a muffler installation? Is there something unique to your model Toyota? Put a stainless steel muffler on it with a lifetime guarantee and you'll never have to worry about it again. America, the country so great that even its haters refuse to leave. billthe5th
the issue is ahead of the muffler a bit, so I think more than just the muffler needs to be replaced if I understand correctly. And the last time I got that whole length replaced, I later found that one of the brackets to hold it all up was just hammered down for some unknown reason, rather than welding it like it was supposed to be done. That was a Midas. I don't know very much about it all unfortunately, so would prefer to get a recommendation rather have some clown half-@ss it. feeling uncreative today
mitchell master
Buy a cat back stainless system and install it yourself and do a review.
Wayne Tj
Never heard of welding required if you bought the right parts. Hangers are welded to pipes from the manufacturer and are bolted to the vehicle. Maybe things have changed since I did a SS catback on my Jeep. If you were in my area, I'd recommend my mechanic who does custom exhaust systems. America, the country so great that even its haters refuse to leave. billthe5th
another mechanic showed me years later, it looked like a u-bolt type thing coming out of the car itself, they were in pairs, and instead of using it to attach the exhaust it was just hammered down? feeling uncreative today
Sudsy
I just used Mr Tire over by the Wegmans on 9 in Manalapan I was impressed by their work and very very happy with the price, and I'm not an easy customer when it comes to auto repair (prefer to do most of my own work and know all the scams these people use) Their cost on brake work was just a few dollars more then if I did it myself and they used the same parts I use. I just wanta play everyday despite small nagging injuries -- and go home to a woman who appreciates how full of crap I truly am. ~ Crash Davis Social Distancing since 1962
bass-o-matic
I used to go the DCH for years when I had my 4Runner. Always a good experience. One of the better dealers around. billthe5th
BOM, thanks, I did get a good vibe about the place, but having stuff go wrong twice in a row seemed a bit weird, just bad luck I guess? Thanks everyone for the suggestions, I'll check them all out. The cars getting to that age where it still has some life in it, but will probably need some occasional help! feeling uncreative today
Jay in the Bay
Bill, check out Freehold Tire. They are on Center Street in Freehold, just off of Main Street. Great prices and service for tires. Haven't gotten much else done with them, but they are pretty honest and easy to work with,
billthe5th
Thanks Jay, that's actually walking distance from me, so I might have to give that a shot. It would be awesome to have someone good that close. feeling uncreative today
gobigblue
if its just a hole somewhere along the exhaust ask them to patch it. I brought my grand Cherokee to midas and he would only replace the whole system, for hundreds of $$. walked out and went to advanced auto to look at patch kits, realized they were all crappy and probably wouldn't last very long, asked a guy I see there all the time and he told me to go to monro muffler down the road. place was empty so I knew I was in luck. asked the guy to weld a patch on, said he would charge me the labor and parts, couldn't give a warranty and said it will probably not last very long. that was 4 years ago and it cost me less than $
