Penn 710 / 711 MUP installation - trip lever mod

I recently purchased a modified Mitchell manual pick up to install on my Penn 711. Part of the process involves removing the small nub on the bottom of the bail trip lever (in photo) so that the rotor can move freely without the nub hitting the bail trip posts on the bearing retainer.

 

Any suggestions on how to do this best?
