LYNNWOOD, Wash.

A 69-year-old man was struck and killed by a forklift Monday morning while walking across a Lynnwood Goodwill parking lot.

Police say it was around 10:30 a.m. when an employee at Goodwill was driving the forklift with a box of merchandise through the parking lot in the 4000 block of 198th Street SW.

The driver told offices he saw a "flash of blue" go in front of the forklift and he slammed on the brakes. The box on the forklift then fell forward and landed on the customer.

"It appears that the forklift driver and the victim -- neither one of them saw each other," said Det. Brian Jorgensen with Lynnwood Police. "It was a big box, but it wasn't lifted very high so whether he could see over or around it. I don't know at this point."

The man was rushed to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle in grave condition and later passed away, a hospital spokesperson said.

A family member told us they are all shocked, saddened and confused. At the time of the accident, they thought he was at his job, working as a chef.

"We at Goodwill are definitely concerned about the family," said spokesperson Katherin Boury. "We are concerned; we are sad about this accident."

Boury says all drivers are trained and certified to operate forklifts.

Police are now working to determine if it was a freak accident or some kind of negligence.

"We will be working with Labor and Industry to determine if negligence but right now it's still in investigative phase," Jorgensen said.

He probably has an LTC also and visits the local bar.

You cannot be a man. No way.

"The toothless, braindead, *********, geriatric mouthbreathers around here love their "safe space". It is the only place in the world where they feel like winners, the gracious thing to do, would be to let them enjoy their delusional reality."
