Master Debaiter
Report as little or as much detail as you would like to provide the reader but please don't post specific street names or areas. A specific spot is too much information! Doing so only adds to the traffic in certain areas and will cause an internet feud. For example, you can say that you caught fish in Ocean County but saying that you got them at Ocean Beach is a no-no. Feel free to share any thoughts you might have on local conditions and "I got the old skunkaroo" reports" are OK too. fishdoctor
Snappers and short fluke in SFZ, gulp, snapper strips and spearing. Kept nine out of a gazillion snappers for dinner. I saw a keeper caught! Keeper fluke that is about 18inches on the nose! BTW, all the fluke I caught this year were on a sinker gulp drop shot rig. Seems to work for me. I still work it back towards me. Allows me to stay in one place and it keeps drawing the fish until they take it. The only other rig I use is for livelining and I use a fishfinder rig. Boat, I do bucktail/ dropper though.
Master Debaiter
I'm sure I've seen it before but how many snappers are we allowed to keep? Boston Strong

mets9131
Fished a jetty in Moco tonight and got 2 bass on Mambo Minnows. The first one was a baby but the second put up a hell of a fight and was pretty close to being 28" but didn't have a measuring tape on me. Got them both on back to back casts but the big girl ended up snapping my pole. When I went to pull her up it fell down between some rocks and put way to much pressure on the rod. Had to cut the trip way to short. Second damn pole I've broke this past week thank god they have a warranty. Can anyone recommend a good jetty pole? I'm using a 9fter but it just doesn't have the back bone to handle a jetty.

SPCFudgie
Fluked Monmouth county yesterday with bucktail and gulp. Whole bunch of shorts and a whole bunch of robins. No keepers.
fishdoctor
How are you guys catching the snappers and roughly what size are they? Thanks. JD Snapper poppers with metal or jig and cheap curly tails. Snappers are 6-9in with a few above and below. The jig head gets bigger ones as it drops below the frenzy. ( I wanted dinner) Also, the jig head has one hook. I waste a lot of plastic with the jig head but I like the way they hit it, usually engulf it! I should change the hook on the metal to one hook also. You could also use a sabiki rig or small metal with no popper.
technologist
Mets 9131 If you broke 2 rods in one week your obviously doing something wrong! Stop trying to lift the fish with the rod, climb down to the fish...... Time is the best teacher, but unfortunately it will kill it's pupil! Danny1199
NoMoCo, before sunup. Had a few hits on a bucktail/gulp and teaser, no hookups. As soon as the sun came up, I started losing gulp tails. I switched to gulp shrimp hoping they would stand up better, but the snappers bit them in half with gusto. Some cabbage, not bad though. Water felt very warm.
computeruser
Went fishing yesterday on the kayak to my usual spot Edit - not so specific ~ Sudsy (Raritan bay) once I realized that rain forecast was wrong...7.30AM to 2PM...humid but not too bad due to light western breeze...I was the only kayak out there..action stared quickly and I caught 6 short flounder ( all around 16-17") but no keeper and then it stopped just like that...then I tried some clam and squid as bait and caught a nice black bass and 2 trigger fish ( never caught that before)...they really fight hard...btw the water temps spiked to 78F...and I do not know if that is good or bad

I'm using a 9fter but it just doesn't have the back bone to handle a jetty. Sometimes this is easier said than done, but if you're fishing jetties, before you start casting you need to ask yourself how/where you're going to land a fish if you hook up. You can go with a heavier rod to lift fish with, but then you typically trade that for sensitivity and the ability to throw lighter stuff. I see you've got the korkers, so before you snap another one just take a look around and see where you can safely get closer to the water and use the wave action to bring the fish to a higher spot that's easier to get to. Nice catches for this time of year. Just b/c you CAN, doesn't mean you SHOULD....(what you do DOES make a difference - be accountable)BigWave Dave
MC55
Fun morning out there. Picked 3 bass in the 21 to 23 inch range along with a half dozen or more fluke. Couple of the fluke were just under keeper size. Was getting fluke hits every second or third cast. Water temp has dropped a bit with the sw wind, but still very clean and clear. Saw some hickories and snapper jumping around too. Nice morning to be standing in the water with the very warm breeze blowing. Caught everything on the Z-Mann again which the snappers still have not destroyed.
