East Ender
I have the 3-6 it is an awesome inlet /MTK rocks rod for jigging /bucktailing. The best rod I have ever used for landing big fish in strong currents. It's sweet spot I would say is 4 oz. not a good rod for 1-2 oz. but can be done. Light and easy to cast. I would not suggest this rod for plugging..
Li beach bum
Yeah I wanted it as a bucktailing rod and to throw some plugs when I need to
dennysnook
No wonder you cant find an answer when your looking how a rod throws above and below its range. Try searching in the range. The 9' 2-4 seemed stout and would make a good bucktailing rod but be to stiff and lack action for lipped plugs. That is the only rod I have had in my hands and casted a lipped plug with. Â Im sure you will get the feedback you are looking for here with their popularity. I wasn't crazy about the action of the 9' 2-4 and would guess it throws the upper range better than the lower. Pretty stiff in the upper section for my taste. I prefer the progressive action of my FSC 1087 raptor rated 1-4. It throws 5 well without overloading and can handle 1/2oz in a pinch. Launches 3oz diamond jigs. If your looking for a wide ranged rod that you can multipurpose as I was, you may wanna check out FSC as well.
Li beach bum
Yeah I was looking at fsc line up of rods but I'm looking for a 1 piece 10' and they don't make 10' 1 piece so I have came to the decision to go with cts
dennysnook
As long as you like the action and feel of those rods then your good to go. If not, I must add that I know that the FSC 1088 predator has a pretty good following extended a foot as a custom. Think there was just one in BST recently. I have no need to pass knots, and after seeing what my builder can do to the 1087 blank as compared to the factory, it is hard to buy off the shelf. Allows the rod to cover a greater range of lures by lightening up the tip and giving sensitivity for plug fishing if needed. Goodluck with the purchase. johnnycakes
The Surf n Jetty series are Mod/fast action rods. Light tips for sensitivity, stout midsection for power, Light weight with a med diameter. I use my 2-4 for fast water and areas that require head turning with authority. It casts 1 oz great and I throw Daddy Mac'sand Savage Jigs ( both 5oz's) with it and love the feel. The 3-6 is a better choice for that 5 and up though. I can't see one rod that does it all. If there were ,there wouldn't be so many choices.2-4 if your on the lighter side (1 oz) and the 3-6 if your on the higher end. Hope this helps. Li beach bum
Well I'll be mainly throwing in the 2-4 ounce range not much lighter but maybe up to 5 oz in it is 100% and that's why I was leaning towards the 2-4 . johnnycakes does it strain at 5 oz or not really

Works great with that range and gets those teasers out there. I have found some good success also with lipped lures like the sp minnow and x-raps..............what kind of weight were you experimenting with when you used "lipped plugs"?? dennysnook
I only tested it last week with a the big broken back long a bomber, not sure of the weight, probably around 2oz. The lure has alot of action and I could barely feel the vibration on retrieve. Casting was not an issue. The rod taper was mod fast to me, but it did feel stiff in the tip section as compared to the heavier 1088 fsc. If I was to use plugs I would prefer the action and lighter tip of a 1087 or 1086 fsc predator where you get the lighter tip with some ass. Similar to a gsb action yet more powerful. Some guys might think a rod might feel a bit loose around there but I like it. In short @ 5oz's every once and a while with 2-4 usually the 2-4 rod would be my choice. plays well with others

I use mine predominantly for 2-3 oz metals for teaser delivery and feel this rod is in the zone with that range. What's your take on that ??
