I was looking at the squall levelwind and the specs said the main gear was brass. in the video the guy says its bronze. it caught my eye because I thought brass was too soft for this application but maybe I am wrong. soooo which is it ? which is it on my old beloved penns ?   thks

Checked both print catalogue and PENN website, both say "marine grade bronze alloy" main gear.

Where did you see brass?

to the right on this page at the top there was an advertisement for the squall level wind. (at the moment it is showing squall 2 spd). I clicked on that and went to an official penn site with the info on that reel. the specs said brass main gear and stainless pinion which seemed strange to me. I then clicked on the video and the guy that does all of their videos said it was bronze. before answering you I googled it and after a couple of tries found the same sight and it said the same thing... brass. I think it has to be a misprint. would be interesting to hear what tony has to say

Can't find it, can you give more specifics, like Google search words you used?

type....penn squall levelwind reel. on the page that comes up the second item (at least for me) was Penn R Squall R LevelWind | Penn...click on that. it puts you on the official penn page for the  reel.  specs say brass. to the left of the specs there is a video option. if you click that you get the penn guy who says its bronze

OK found it.

Looks to be a "working page" or something like that left over from when they were setting up the new PENN website.

The link I included in my message above is the "official" PENN website.

Interesting, one of the oddities of Google, I suppose, but definitely something for the IT crew to delete.

I checked out the link you left. I think its the same site but it was for the regular squall and it says bronze alloy main gear like you said. the squall level line which looks like the same site, black page etc it says brass main gear which has got to be a mistake

tony what say you ?......enquiring minds need to know

Yup, you are correct, I had thought I clicked on the LW's.

The IT team is working on it.

Mark,

Apologize for the late response, Squall LW has a bronze main gear. Sorry for any confusion.
