I just got here to a resort in Papagayo Bay. I am looking to do a fishing charter while I am here with my wife and have been doing some research here in the internet cafe, but it is a bit overwhelming. They have a tour company here at the resort that offers fishing charters, so I put my name in their queue to see if another couple would be interested in splitting with us. However, there is very limited information on the boats / captains, so I don't know their reputations and if I will be getting my money's worth! The same is true for all the charter information I have been reading online. It is hard to know who the good captains and boats are and if these companies are reputable. There are also boats that solicit right on the beach in front of the resort.

So yeah, I am a bit overwhelmed. Has anyone taken fishing trips out of this area before? Can anyone recommend a boat? I am looking to do an offshore full day trip. Thanks in advance.

While I can't say that I've been to where you are, we did stay at the Rui in Guanacaste and 4 of us took a charter from the resort. We went this week 2 years ago. It was a smaller boat, and I think it was a father and son run boat. I believe it was about $75 dollars per and it was a half day trip. Trolling mostly. We caught Bonita and jacks. Lost a big Wahoo. They cleaned what we caught and had the chef at the resort cook it for our group that night. Was it the nicest boat that I've ever been on? No. Was it worth what we paid? Absolutely. Good luck down there.
