JrzFlyGuy
These rods look appealing. Has anyone tried them or got their hands on one yet? I'm wondering how they fish other lures like Ava's, mag darters or any lure between 1-3 oz. I was about to pull the trigger on the shimano rod but now I'm confused. Thanks. j0k3r
Sounds like a marketing gimmick, it's hilarious for a manufacturer to be advertising a rod to be used with a "popular lure".

Ask Shipwreck when you see him out n about.. He was a strong advocate of this and how he explained it,I totally agree. plays well with others
SaltyDriftWood
The lures have produced so far, I'd agree gimmick
redfin
They are not calling it a "SP Minnow surf rod". I don't see anything wrong with calling a SP rod as in Salt Pro. I think of SP or Salt Pro to be somewhat of a "line" of stuff geared toward SW fishing in general. At least that's my take on it.
Fishit 2
I was at tackle direct the other day talking about this rod with the guys(I asked if there was going to be a casting model) they weren't sure but it seems like the rod will have a softer tip that will allow you to throw all the popular swimmers - Bombers, Red Fins, etc... I like all my Daiwa rods so this might be a good rod if priced right.

JTSurf
shimano does this with some of thier rods as well. waxwing, trevala. It is about selling the rod, reel, line, and lure all in one system
RoosterSeeker
If they would make the 10'6" 1-4 oz in a 4 piece travel rod I would buy two the day that they came out!!! I like Daiwa stuff! Keith

Jerseygofish
I just bought this rod yesterday at the fisherman supply and all the guys there like this rod . The action is great and it just booms the sp minnows . As far throwing metals it can do it no problem. I used a27 and really whip it out there. Really happy with the rod. Shipwreck
The 1 to 4 ounce rods were tested using a lot of different weights and lures. However they put most of the emphasis on the SP minnows when they tested and designed the rod. Hence the name. Daiwa (and other) manufactures often do rods and reels in 'series' like the Coastal rods and reel series or the new Shimano long cast surf series for example. In addition there is zero marketing for this rod from Daiwa so its sort of impossible to object to something that is not there. Fact is it's a nice entry level to mid level rod that is not too expensive and has solid components. Could you do better for more money? Sure, but you can also do a hell of a lot worse at its price point. Chunk Norris
I wonder if you have to change any of the rods components to land 30+ pound fish...like you do with the s.p minnow itself.

The fact they woun't put better hardware on that plug and just charge a dollar extra always leaves me scratching my head plays well with others
Chunk Norris
I guess my real question is... is it a rod made to throw s.p minnows and catch 16lb fish? Or a rod made to throw s.p minnows and catch 40lbrs? Because with the right hardware the diawa products do catch cows
