Hey guys, just got a vs200 about 2 weeks ago, well yesterday I was fishing all was well and suddenly I started feeling almost like a grinding feeling when reeling.  I have not dropped the reel once, so I really do not think I damaged anything, the only thing I can think of was about 15 min before it started happening a wave came and gave it a nice smack, its hard to describe the feeling of it, id probably say it almost feels like there is salt or sand stuck somewhere.  I may add that I mostly notice it when it is under load, I took it off my rod and it feels fine when im slowly cranking, but when i crank a little faster I notice it as well.  I also took the spool off and still noticed the problem.  I live pretty close to Rivers End so I am probably going to have them check it out but I wanted to hear some opinions on here, thanks.

it's the gears, it's normal because it's spiral bevel gears, they're stronger than traditional hyploid gears but can be noisy at times

I did dunk it in freshwater and everything still feels a little funny, little louder than normal, emailed VS and they told me it could be a bad bearing...

In that case, it should be covered under warranty given it's only a few weeks old (assuming you bought it new).

Otherwise, I would suggest you ignore it until the reel needs servicing.

No problem .What's the worst that can happen fish it hard you will know soon enough .

The worst that can happen is that it seizes up when you have the fish of a lifetime. The whole reason to have a VanStaal is to fish it without having to worry about it. Van Staals do fail like any reel can. I would take it to Q at Rivers End and not take a chance.
