Striper46
Is there any truth to this, I read a couple post here n their that say they kill the action on sp, bombers, darters, SS sinkers & basically any swimming lure. I haven't noticed it, thoughts? Thanks!!
JohnnyDee
haven't really noticed because i still catch fish "You can't fish here ! This is the swim area!"
lockbox
i have found that on certain lures if you don't use a split ring it will alter the action of the plug. i also feel that on certain plugs the paper clip design is to much paper clip for the lure and could altter the action along with fish catching ability. i do use them but i am thinking of going back to what i used for so many years and yes they do make life so much easier on Bucktails and Metal lures but i do feel that they are a bit to much snap at times, so the jury for me is out- i am not sure what i am going to do. JohnnyDee
Now that it's on my mind, i believe my small mambos swim like crap with these clips ! SP's seem ok though and some of my bucktails don't fit the heavy wire . "You can't fish here ! This is the swim area!"

audio1fx
like with anything you will have humans with very little common sense most likely a person used a 175 pnd clip on a 7/8 oz plastic swimmer with 60pnd leader material :D and complained the lure did not swim correct gee I wonder why ? Samsung puts out a lot of 1200 55" TV's and 3 are defective - does that make it a junk tv ? chevy makes 5000 2014 Camaro's = 4= turn out to be defective? is it a junk automobile??? what you did not here was 2 of the t.v. new owners "dropped their tv bringing it into their house or took it out of the box to fit it in their car then proceeded to hit every pot hole on the way home ??? also 3 of the 4 defective Camaro's the owner's did "hole shot's " on the way out of the dealership or drove it for 3 years with out a oil change ??? point is - don't drink the coolaid if unsure ask "how is the most common way with best success for the type of lure you will be throwing? moosh
I use split rings on all my lures now that I switched to the clips , it only makes sense that you would get more action using a split ring . I love the clips it makes switching lures so much easier . But I've noticed a change lures a lot more now because it is easier , I should Stick with one lure a little longer than I do.... Artie Fishil
IMO clips eliminate the need for split rings unless the lure just won't go on the clip without a ring, most will go on the clips.
Jersey Salt
There might be some salt to the op's theory. I have noticed in my FW fishing that most any swimming plug performs much better when you use it with the rapala knot. Many times it has been a game changer. The plug just seems to have better roll and wiggle with that big loop connecting it to the mainline. I think the light weight and buoyancy of mono play a big role here. I have yet to experiment with this using surf gear, but you can be sure that I will now. Sometimes all you need that that little subtle difference in technique to make it happen and have a great outing instead of an ok one.
Micodese
I use 125's and haven't had any problems. Lures swim fine. Live for something or die for nothing. HateBreed
Lazymanfishing
I like the clips. I remove the split ring and just attach the clip directly to the lure or jig. Doesn't seem to affect the action but I do try to use smaller clips with light lures. Before the clips came about I would tie a surgeon loop directly to the lure which seemed to improve the action on swimming lures especially. Never liked the split rings but they work.. Striper46
Seems there may be some truth to this.....I'll have to get down to an inlet and put these clips to the test against a duo lock. I'll post back when I do. Thanks guys!!
NIGHT STRIKES
Personally I prefer dual lock snaps over TA when fishing smaller plugs and TA over Dual Locks when fishing bucktails and larger plugs.. I think is it very important to use the correct size clip to match the size or style plug you are fishing and if you use to big of a TA clip I believe is does effect its action on say Bombers & SPs . TA does makes a very small clip and would seem to work just fine on them but it can be a pain to attach your lures at times especially during wet and cold conditions and is much easier with a Dual Lock ..
