Question on Race

So I recently sat through a dinner during which one of the people at my table went on and on and on about his girlfriend's goal of "changing peoples' perception of Asian American women". Apparently, this is like a huge issue for Asian American women and there's a prevailing sentiment that they are seen as "sidekicks" - like an accessory for Caucasian women which many of them are adamantly trying to change. There are entire internet campaigns about this, published articles, even comic books I learned.

I have no perception about Asian American women. None, whatsoever, beyond a vague underlying belief that they are hot, in a different sorta way and an acknowledgment that I'd like to have hooked up with one at some point in my former, single, life. That's it, and beyond that I haven't spent one second of my life thinking about that particular group, and certainly not long enough to have formed any sort of notion of how they fit into the modern American social paradigm.

So I'm wondering how much time various groups of people spend thinking about their race or ethnicity and the race or ethnicity of others and why. It seems that I could spend 1,000 years talking with other white men and the notion of our being part of that group wouldn't pop up a single time in conversation. Yet I've known black men that can't seem to go 2 minutes without mentioning their race or the race of others as if it were the prevailing, predominant thought on their minds that constantly determined how they view and respond to every situation, setting, social interaction. Why the heck is that?

I've done stuff I ain't proud of, and the stuff I am proud of is disgusting.

as a white guy we are the APEX ethnic group in this country,

so unless you are a racist, there isn't much to say.....

groups that think they are mistreated complain about it,

Quasi white people like Italians will lament how they are portrayed by the media as being all in the mob.

sub groups of white people will form to lament the treatment of their sub group.

The idea that asian women have a bone to pick with other other women.  Hmmm...(are there any women reading?  Nope,,,ok)

They are being catty.  What I see is white women getting catty when standing next to some of the most beautiful creations god put on this planet.

Now everybody read this and I'll erase it before the gals finish baking those pies for our supper.

Did I ever mention my award?  The 4 or 5 black guys on my stagehand crew that I use in NH thought that I have so much more funk than all these Yankees that they made me an honorary brutha?  They made me a plaque on a piece of wood with a Sharpie, but I cant hang it in my office cause it has the word on it.  They still wont let me say it though.

Victmhood.  Just part of the culture.

maybe I should deny it? it's what you always do when called out on your's.

I do have some bigoted ideals.  They are mostly reserved for swarthy eastern european Yankees though.  Unlike assigning INFERIOR motor skills to a race (ability to use an auto), I have odd ideas abut silly cultures (IMO).

You're raison d'etre at PG is to try to paint people as actual racists.

I neve, ever thought I would live in other people's heads rent free, thank you SOL.

They are hot and I damned near moved to Berkeley to continue my higher "education" because of it. I live in a area w lots of Asians and I don't see them being sported about as a token in company of other women of different races. Of course they have been around here a lot longer than possibly some other places so maybe the novelty has worn off.

See you on the big one.

I've always had a neutral to favorable perception of "Asian American Women" but that can be changed. Loud, militant hypersensitive activism can change perception. I'm not sure that's where anyone wants to go with it, but just sayin'.
