As the season is about to begin, I thought it would be helpful to post this little informational on how to report tagged piping plovers that you might encounter when you are out fishing.

These birds are vital to the costal ecosystem. We will all benefit if more coastal areas are closed to protect this species, which is critical to the health of the surf environment.

I'll tell you what I dont like about them. Sometimes they follow me. And they sneak up on me like trying to get near my feet, then when I turn around they run away. Really ******* annoying. I turn one way they race towards my feet, i turn the other way they run away, really ******* annoying. The same way they run back and forth in the waves in the surf. these people that like them have never been fishing alone with 20 of them doing this. Its even worse when its just one

This comes up every year and the passion is always high.

But, I hope everyone realizes the political power these birds represent! It is the main ploy used by the Feds to dictate their policy over our coast lines. These birds will never get out of the endangered list, and even if their numbers increase exponentially by some miracle (stupid and miracle are inversely proportinal though), there are other birds lined up to take their places. Signs are made already.

Slot Limit for Striped Bass; 1 fish 26"-34"

Save the Porgy; Bring Back 10 fish daily limit

just a FYI -You do realize that if you report them theres a good chance of them shutting down that beach. Also those birds you are seeing are not piping plovers. They are a different type of shore bird. The plovers are usualy 1 or 2 only.

Passion is high and so is the cost of "protecting" them. Somewhere on this sight I believe there is a thread you can follow to the $11,000,000 spent in 2011 alone to protect them, and the $100,000,000 + since 1986, not sure of exact year.

There is nothing wrong with building a protective cage around their nests, but the BS about shutting entire areas down is just wrong and it impacts other's, not just fisherman. Too bad manking didn't co-exist with dinosaurs all those years ago. He could "protect" them and then they would in turn eat him/her.

I don't think it is our job as a society to decide who lives and who dies.

It was very cruel and Very Un-American when they killed the foxes, in an attempt to protect these birds. It makes no sense and I think they know it now. Others come in and they replace the foxes, like rodents, etc.

The only possible argument they can make is that the bird population is only affected by humans performing activities which are not normal for that area. I do not think they have mush of a case, but then again you are fighting feds and lunatic deep pocketed orgs whose funding is based upon showing beach closures for their old foggy minded numhead members.

As a side note: Does anyone here believe anyone cares about the different owls they are protecting in Timber country?

Its the tree huggers who use the owls to get their agendas against loggers, oil exploration, etc...
