Flatley11
I am making smiling bill bucktails but I want to put my own eyes on. Does anyone know a good way to fill in the eyes on the hot lips mold for good?
JohnnyDee
I don't know, but have considered drilling them out after pouring to add eyes. Haven't tried yet. "You can't fish here ! This is the swim area!"
Ed White
Going to be hard to add anything inside the mold that will stand up to the heat of the lead, without welding some aluminum in. You could drill a finished jig and then make a mold of it out of bondo, and it will last for a while. Be a good pre-season project. "Can You Hear Me, Doctor?" Ed White
Ok, after a bit more thought, you could mark the location of the eye inside the mold cavity, and drill a 1/4 hole thru both halves of the mold at this location. Start small and work up to a 1/4". Once the holes are in place, cut a small length of 1/4 aluminum round stock and stick it thru from the outside of the mold, and when it is sticking far enough into the mold to make a good eye socket, weld or epoxy the round stock in from the outside. More work finding what you need than doing the job, but hey, make sure you show us pics of the end results. "Can You Hear Me, Doctor?"
Ed White
And, after all that, I just re-read the OP post, and he's just looking to fill in the existing eye cavities, not create new ones. Disregard the 2 previous posts.....unless you want to add 1/4" eyes to a mold. "Can You Hear Me, Doctor?"

BLT
I've seen on other forums people using JB Weld. Never tried it, so will not vouch for how well it works.

The Lure Washer
Why not just file them off when you cut the spru off? BranfordJeff - I'd hit it like a drumset in the special ed classroom.

I can't think of any way to fix the mold like that, at least a way that will work and not look like a hack job. ASMFC - Destroying public resources and fisheries one stock at a time since 1942.
