Scubaman
I am considering adding the Zara Spook to my arsenal for this season. I fish mostly lakes and ponds in Massachusetts and most of the water is stained. Any suggestions on what colors work the best in the Northeast and what size Zara works best? the Spook seams like a big lure at 4.5 inches. Is the Zara Puppy at 3 inches a better choice? or does it matter? as some small bass with hit a big lure. Has anyone had luck with the wounded spook? thanks. StickinLips
I throw the the 4.5" spook silver on sunny days black and white on over cast days. It works well when the top water bite is on and its castability helps when fish are shallow and you need to keep your distance. The one thing I have found is it seems to be a lure for smaller fish. I have never caught anything over 1.5 lbs on it but as with all top waters its a blast to fish. Good luck
tightlines90
Spook is one of my favorite lures. The spook is a good size. My favorite is the super spook Jr. Its just a little smaller then the spook and bigger then the puppy. My favorite color is the bass color or any other white bottom one. Its topwater so they mostly only see the botton anyway. The yellow bottom ones work well in dirtier water as well. For smallmouth i llike the puppy. Ive cought smallmouth on the puppy that were not much bigger then the lure so i wouldnt worry to much on size. If they are missing the lure i would go down a size. If there is musky or any other toothy fish in the water watch out you might loose a lure.
Dan Grulke
I prefer the Sammy by lucky craft as it is easier to make it walk the dog. I like the ghost minnow and chatruese shad for it. With the spook make it match the hatch of whatever the bass are eating. DG
billthe5th
That's one of those plus I never had much luck with in FW. Cocktails blues off of the beach love the 4.5" size, but I am pretty sure I never caught anything in FW on any sizes. When the topwater mood strikes me for FW bassing, I'll go with a heddon torpedo. feeling uncreative today

MaxKatt
I throw some spook during the day, and have tried zara, sammy, and Imma skimmer. All are good. I've used everything from the cigar size down to that tiny zara (pup?) White, silver, or any light color that would look like the belly of a small baitfish. I think I've found the sammy and Imm easiest to work. I don't throw them a lot. Most of my topwater is at night with hula poppers or jitter bugs. Don't like the spook in the dark because I think that more erratic, quick change of direction, side-to-side, darting is tough for them to zero in on and hit. I suppose if I slowed down the retrieve more it could work, but I guess I do well enough with the other stuff I've never gotten around to it. Skunkmaster flex
The normal sized spook is definitely not too big of a lure for any size bass. Bass will hit topwater walking baits much larger than that and on a consistent basis.

sks
Love topwater, will use anything. Spooks are great, any size. I make my own up to 6 to 8" and have 1 1/2 lb to 4 lbers hit them. I don't work it slowly I put quick side to side splash to it. I think in stained water more disturbance on top gets there attention. Big lure Big fish. Not always but it can't hurt. Jig Man
Both LM and sm will hit a spook at night. Work them a little slower and add a pause here and there. Spooks are one of my favorite day time bass lures. Love seeing one getting blasted on top
Sweetwater
Both LM and sm will hit a spook at night. Work them a little slower and add a pause here and there. Spooks are one of my favorite day time bass lures. Love seeing one getting blasted on top They'll hit pencils, too. I've got the pictures to prove it. I have become too old to drink bourbon on the rocks. I will still drink it in the parking lot.
Kchang016
I would go with the spook or one of those kvd top waters. I've caught a lot of lmb on those and they walk the dog well.
