Tiderider
A guy brought me an early reel, serial number around 1100. I can get around a VS pretty well and quickly had it open. It had about two tablespoons of saltwater in the gear box and the pinion shaft bearing is roaring indicating it's shot. I removed the rotor and had my pin spanner at the ready to remove the lock ring to remove the pinion, seal and bearing. To my surprise there's no slots, holes or any other method I can see to remove the ring. Any help is much appreciated. Tiderider
Here's the reel in question. VS200 s/n 1189. [img= Here's where I expected to find the notched ring holding the assembly in place. http://i57.tinypic.com/2iqjxuc.jpg] "You can't catch 'em while sitting on the couch, so Go Fishing"
Tiderider
I guess I'll put it back together and tell my friend he's out of luck, I can't figure out how to get the pinion pack out of this one. mml4
1)I am not even sure this is possible but did someone put the notched ring in upside down? 2)I can't tell from the photo -Are there threads cut into the case to accept the notched ring?If so is the ring missing? If you determine that the ring is missing mount the flyer and tap on it gently with a soft mallet. The transmission should come out.
