Beef Prices

Wow, this stuff is out of control. Strip steak, $9.99 per lb at Scam's Club. used to be $3.99 when I started shopping there a few years ago. Brisket, $7.99 per lb  I do packer cuts of brisket on the Egg and some of them top 10lbs :scared: It's only going to get worse as American herds have not recovered from the midwest drought, and Australia has liquidated their herds due to severe drought in Queensland. Oh well, more pork and chicken looks to be on the menu.

Just imagine how happy you would be if you lost everything you have in life and then suddenly got it back

Last summer I got one I think it was under $3/lb at RD. $2.53????

Shoprite has flats on sale this week for $5/lb but they are really trimmed up. If you ground them up they'd probably be 85/15 or less.

This is definitely something to keep an eye on for the long term. The US beef market could end up like our tuna market, where Asia is purchasing as much as possible at the highest price. Farmers can't keep up with the demand and when you throw in the increasingly worse droughts in the southwest/midwest, it only adds to the problem.

That being said, Stop and Shop has some nice semi-boneless rib roasts on sale for $6.99/lb.. I'm sure that even a few years ago the sale price would have been more like $3.99/lb., but I'll take $6.99. Now I just have to decide if I'm going to cut it into two big arse ribeyes or roast it in the oven. Either way, it will be enjoyed during the Bruins game on Friday night. :beers:

news segment tonight said it will get painful in the short term and last for the long term

depleted beef herds are causing the upswing in beef prices

but chicken, pork, eggs, and HEAVEN FORBID - Bacon!

will all rise (bacon the most)

the report said that cattle stocks are at a 50 year low

and to replenish them, it will take at least 3 or 4 years

OMG!

Climate Change? Your average 500KG Cow putts out about 1000L of greenhouse gas per day. With herds at 50 year lows, this should be a positive for the levels of greenhouse gasses.
