New Inlet

Got my fingers crossed that it "lives". I live across the bay from it. Folks who have lived here longer than me say the tide comes up over the bulkheads more often. Scientists seem to disagree... There is water in the street right now; but that's likely more an effect of the storm that anything else.

The fact that an opinion has been widely held is no evidence whatever that it is not utterly absurd

Apparently, the tide does come up more often, but it's not because of the inlet. Water levels are monitored up and down the coast, and periodic higher water levels have been observed everywhere from southern New Jersey (actually, I think as far south as Maryland, but I don't want to overstate), up to at least Buzzards Bay in Massachusetts.

Blaming the New Inlet is an obvious response, and like most obvious responses to such problems, it is apparently wrong.

I cannot tell a lie:  I took none of those photos.  My interest as a scientist, pirate and a fisherman keeps me in touch with this issue.  It would be a shame to have it closed since the $ the politicos would waste and the loss of the quality of the bay would all be for naught since Mom Nature laughing would opening it up again after all .  :bonk:

Where is this breach. I heard about it but cant remember where is is

About a mile 1/2 west of the smith point beach parking lot. You can see the breakers from the FINS ranger station

LIBBA #2445 -- 2010 Ford Ranger Sport 4X4

You can find me cruising the beach in the fall.
